DVD : Rick Snow and Chris Pilliod's Wisconsin Extra Leaf Quarter Theory

Received the DVD today that I ordered from ANA. It is a great documentation of Rick Snow and Chris Piliod's "Mystery Solved Theory" ANA Theater Presentation of the Famous Wisconsin Extra Leaf Statehood Quarters that was presented back on August 10, 2007 in Milwaukee, WI. All I can say about Rick and Chris is... Excellent... Job Well Done !! The DVD via ANA provides a logical explanation as to the origin of the two varieties of the WI Quarter. Obviously, some "experts" will never agree with Chris' well researched findings and fortunately the field of Numismatics can incorporate many views and opinions. From one's standpoint, having a Denver Mint video of the dies' preparation and the coins being minted maybe the only thing that will convince some people that the quarters were truly the products of a few at the Denver Mint back in November, 2004 rather than simply a $10 Die Gouge worthless coin that was "hyped" and a mere product of "hysteria" starting in 2005. Enjoy collecting coins everyday. Mark.

    Mike Diamond added his cautions at the end with a two-minute question that turned into a speech about die damage.

    Just recently he sent this e-mail:


    Hi Rick.

    I looked through my most severe cases of die damage. Although the relief of some impact scars is as high or higher than the "extra leaves", I was unable to find a trough (indicative of a pressure ridge) associated with any of them. So your conclusion that the low leaf (and by extension, the high leaf as well) was impressed while the die was soft appears to be confirmed.

    I've sent this info on to Chris Pilliod.

    Just one out of a thousand varieties, who cares?? Why not pimp the speared eagle, speared bison or any other variety? This variety has gone as far as it can go and every post seems to be UPDATE!!!!! NEW INFORMATION ON HIGH LEAF FOUND!!! Who cares, this variety has played itself out and it seems you pimp it because you have an "investment" (all you ever talk about) in it's future.

    A lot of people don't believe there's anything in the least lame about this.

    It would be a shame if someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Billy Crawford
    left the boards so I certainly hope you're wrong.

    I seriously doubt anyone wants him gone or to not come back.

    What is "lame" to you isn't lame to others. Are we to only discuss topics that YOU find non-lame and interesting?
    As for me, I appreciate the varied topics, including this one, especially when top researchers such as Rick Snow and Chris do such great investigative work. It is definitely worth reading, and perhaps even purchasing their DVD.
    If you don't want to, that's your decision. But don't limit my topics and those of others. If you don't like it, don't read it.

    TexasNationals may find it lame, but it is a modern day who dunnit mystery. I enjoyed the chance to help solve some of the mystery. There is still more to be solved, like who the guy (or gal) who did it was and why.

    To: Golden Eye Numismatics.... I have had an interest in error/variety coins since 1962 when as a young coin collector I was able to purchase a 1955 DDO Lincoln Cent from a senior coin collector in Houston and complete my Capitol Plastics Penny board. I have several coins of interest but have been intrigued primarily with the WI Extra Leaf Quarters because they are true varieties of a very popular collector series and because a few were discovered here in South/ Central Texas.

    To: Texas Numismatics..... Every member of the PCGS US Coin Forum has a right to share their numismatic interests with fellow Forum members. Simply skip over my threads if they bother you so much. Pimping left my vocabulary when grew out of my teenage (acme) years. Concerning Billy Crawford who has been a true asset to Numismatics and who is a fellow member as I of Coneca, Billy is highly respected by many of us. Because you mentioned it with such passion, I can say that a leading Coin Magazine manager said that Billy's WI Quarter theory was not even worth printing in his magazine. Personally, I thought that was too harsh of a statement. Oh, by the way.....Hook em Horns !!!!! Class of 1969 !!

    Okay, HighLowLeaves, you do have right to post whatever you like, as do I, agreed?? Every legit thread on any long term "investment" you chime in on the "under-valued" coins. LOL. With a mintage IMO of 30-40k per coin, these coins bring too much as it is. How about the 1997 SMS Jeffersons with 25k mintage? Changing design? As for B. Crawford, I thought his initial analysis of the coins possible origins met with so much hate that I too would have left this board. Everyone makes an analysis and sometimes people get it wrong, but good god! I happen to know a little something about die varieties myself and would have had enough at that point also.     Hey ATM , Just to let you know Potter writes for a paper that will not print any of Billys opinions and others.
    So i would think that , What a person said about Billys opinion from Michigan had more to do with Billys opinion than anybodies.
    Try reading Coin worlds Last Articles.

    Now Rick and Chis Pilliods has done a very good job , thank God using metal science for proof how it was done.
    But you have never worked with metal would not understand that.

    throw in my one cent worth - coming in at the tail end of things, but I enjoyed the presentation at the ANA - wish we had more time to ask questions - being from the Cheesehead State, I find this whole mystery of the low/high leaf very intriguing AND I dont care if the coin gains or loses value over the years and who's pimping etc - just makes for an interesting story/whodonit.
