I just saw this image yesterday, and hadn't come across it before. I don't have an Indian Head Cent variety publication (yet), and was wondering if this is a known/acknowledged re-punched date, and if so, what the "reference" number is?
It's the last two digits (shown) from an 1888 IHC:

It's a S-5 which is pretty bold, but I have seen a few of them, so I suspect it is not too rare. (two stars in my book = 2X premium)
