1890 Morgan,Need Help On This One. PICS

Has deep gouges on reverse with letters and leaves struck over them.Can anyone help with the terminolgy on this?image

    That is one of those dates that is frequently found well pummelled. Likely one of the reasons that nice 65s are scarce. Most likely a damaged planchet.

    Looks maybe strick through scraps of wire. Leroy doesn't list those. Die gouges would be elevated fromthe field. These are depressed abd you do get (impressive) metal flow into the die under them (The "e" for instance). Must have been a good strike.

    Those kind of errors are totally random and each one is unique unto itself. Had those been on the obverse the coin might have been bodybagged for negative eye appeal due to the distracting nature of strike-throughs.
    When in doubt, don't.

    Dennis is right on. Here's an 80cc that was body bagged due to the planchet flaw in the date.
