Is this a Forum member... or a "known" dealer?

eBay ID: vette1986

After paying for an auction that I won I decided to look at "seller's store"... specifically at IHC's. Out of 13 listings - 5 are Key dates (all raw coins)... then I pop over to the mercs, and there's a 1916-D (raw) about to close.

Seems to always have tons of auctions... was wondering if anyone has any info (good or bad)?

He has been discussed a few times here, with mixed comments. Just search on the name and read through the threads.

  • I have had a lot of great dealings with vette. He has a ton of listings. I bought a lot of silver quarters and halves way below melt. His shipping discount for additional items is nice $1.00.

He shipped them out quickly in secure bubble mailers and left nice feedback. And know I don't him.

    example

Search with vette1986 as search phrase, in the body, in the coin forum - not as the author.
  • Thanks for the direction (link) I'll take a look. Has over 53k feedbacks, I checked with toolhaus but didn't see anything overwhelmingly negative (just the usual BS that happend when you have a million listings to keep track of). I like raw coins, so finding a decent seller on the bay is always nice.... I'll read up now.

  • I have bought 1 coin from him and had no problems. The coin was exactly as described, and was shipped quickly. He does seem to sell alot of what I would concider "problem" coins though, and alot of his photographs are out of focus. Buyer beware.
  • Hi raq-L, I got some walkers from this seller back when I was doing walkers, early '07. The seller's been around a while. They run a LOT of auctions. They use a lot of boilerplate info so watch out for typos in their listings and resultant carry-over bad info.

I too do not like to see their out-of-focus coins. It is just too shifty. Either they're hiding something or they don't give a flip about decently representing their auction item, ...or something...

He is a coin dealer from the Des Moines, Iowa area I believe. He used to have a shop, but closed it a year or 2 ago. I think that seller ID is actually 2 individuals, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I've had a few dealings with him.

  • I've had several dealings with him over the past few years. I have had no problems to date. I usually only pickup a bunch of cheap stuff to fill holes in albums. I did notice that many of his Morgans appear to have problems, at least from the pics, so be selective in what you buy.

I can't bid on his items. Yep, blocked. He had a fake CC trade dollar listed and I sent a nice heads up
email. Just asked him to check the weight and take a closer look. Got an email back saying that the weight
was 25 grams and within the tolerance limits! This was a suposedly AU coin. He said I was being blocked
and was interfering with his auctions and would be reported. Hmmmmm, never heard from Ebay. The
coin did sell in the $400 dollar range. Oh, well. This took place about two years ago.
