Nose grease. Rub your finger against the side of your nose to get it oily and rub it against the sticker residue. Then, buff the surface with a clean cotton cloth.

Dab a paper towel with a little cooking oil.. cheap and effective. The newer slabs are water tight so them wash with a little soap and water on a paper towel to remone the oil residue.
THORO spot remover works well, and will not soften the holder (unlike acetone). THORO is an organic solvent (mostly naphtha, or petroleum ether) that is flammable. It should be available in any big supermarket.
