Buffalo nickel DDO variety question ~ Is this one? (Pics added)

Anyone have pics/info or diagnostic details regarding the 1916 Buffalo DDO? Please point me in the right direction to see an actual example...

I will post pics later of what I *think* might be one...

Here's an acid treated one that just went down on eBay.

  • Thanks for the help - and that's a cool scan of it Type2 (neat doubling, way more extravagant than I expected).

The feather tips also will show significant doubling.

With the significant doubling readily apparent on the feathers also, it may be possible to identify a dateless buffalo nickel as the 1916 double die..... how cool would that be??

  • Here are 4 QX-3 pics of the date on the 1916 that I have... it seems to have metal showing between the tops of the date: 9*1*6 and within the number 6 and along the ribbon...? But doesn't show doubling on the feathers, however - there is slight doubling on the forehead and down the nose of the Indian.

Might this be a milder form of doubling? Any thoughts??

Not a double die. Most likely a small cud.... a small area where a portion of the die broke away...
