This one just screamed, "BUY ME!" Who am I to argue? I've never been to Maine but maybe this will inspire me to go...

ps-they've got some great affordable (I know, it's all relative) toned commems for sale at the moment.....including a sweet looking AU California that might be one of the best toned AU coins I've ever seen.....

Well, I live in Maine, and I've never seen one that attractive. Thanks for sharing.

    I wonder why it's only a 63. Strike?

I hate to even imply there's something negative about this coin, though. It's the kind of find that makes you not even bother to look at the grade. image
  • SeatleSlammer. I'm glad you're really excited about the coin. Let me know how you like it in-hand when it arrives tomorrow. image

I don't own a single early commem, but after seeing that one maybe I'll shift gears.

Gorgeous specimen. What is the price?

Beautiful coin. Why is it only a 63?

I'm not much for commem grading, so I'm not sure.....perhaps the toning masks some dings.
  • morgansforevermorgansforever Posts: 8,500 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sheet is $200, so I take because of the toning it's triple that?

Why did NGC not give it a star? Do they not star at the 63 level? Nice coin imageimage

It looks like a beautiful coin. These were struck with rather low relief on the obverse and many are graded lower than what a first glance would suggest because of faint slidemark hairlines across the shield.

Has to be the toughest coin along with a Sesqui to find with any color due to the pie dish 1921 Peace dollar type relief. The marks on the reverse are heavy die polish marks, and the obverse strike is about average. You could spend a lifetime looking at Maine's searching for a fully struck one with color... like trying to find a 1921 Fully Struck Peace dollar with Color. Looks like it's in an older NGC holder before they added the Star. Nice coin for a 63 or 64 even, and at 3 times 63 sheet it's a bargain, as if this was in a 67 holder it would be a $20K +/- coin.

Anaconda would NEVER self-promote here, would they? image

I promise I don't work for Anaconda. Although I'd sure consider it for a discount on their inventory.

I suppose I am advertising for them by posting my purchase, but the same can be said for anyone here that posts any coin from a named seller...

  • That is an awesome Maine! Who cares what the multiple on sheet was? Pay what it is worth to you as a collector! I'd gladly pay 3x sheet for a great looking coin like that, because I collect coins, and the value is not important to me. I pay what I am willing to pay primarily, not what a 'sheet' tells me it is worth!
Anaconda has many 'dream' coins in their inventory. I've only bought one low dollar coin from them, but the service was excellent!
    How's that for an advertisement!

SeattleSlammer, no problem whatsoever. I've brought to the attention many times some beautiful coins that Anaconda (and other dealers) have in their inventory. That's an integral part of this forum IMO, to share and bring attention to coins that I feel are worthy.

So yesterday I pull the coin out of the shipping box and.......

it looks EXACTLY like it does in the pics.....gorgeous! Truly electric colors.
One of those great toners where you DON'T need to twist and turn it under just the right light to make the colors pop....indeed, outside on a cloudy Seattle day it looks like a million bucks.
    Thanks Anaconda/Brandon.
