Anything worth looking for in Washington Quarters (pocket change)?

.... have a bunch (no silver & no state quarters) - so, is there any reason to look these over closely? (All are well circulated, no MS-anything)...

Not really unless you have a lot of time and nothing better to do.

Sure is-DDOs on the 1965, 1970-D (two different dies), 1976-D and DDRs on the 1966, 1968-D, 1971, and 1971-D. All of these are strong doubled dies and all are very difficult to find but are certainly worth looking for.

    dcamp,

Thanks for posting. That looks like a fun site for a hoarder like me...

Markets (governments) can remain irrational longer than an investor can remain solvent.

i heard of some reverse B's for the late sixties and some 180 degree rotations for 1999's

the Minnesota extra tree varieties - i found 2 DDR-001 in roll searches

plus 82s and 83s - they have to be unc condition because they were not
    placed in mint sets
  • I always look for the extra leaf on the Wisconson coin when I get one in my change.

Of all those varieties, I've only ever seen is the 1976-D, in a SEGS slab at a show...all of those varieties are VERY rare.

  • I would add the 1969 D thru 1972 D type B reverse (high relief, matching the proofs) as being worth hanging on to. They are not easy to find in circulation and harder to find in the market.
  • Well, I greatly appreciate the link & info (I was jonesing for something to "look through".... quarters were pretty lame:

    15 crappy statehood quarters (1999, 2000, 2005 & 2006)

    15 1990's, 18 1980's, zero 1970's & 3 1960's (1965, 1965 & 1967)... nuthin else.

My "Best Find" was a "minty" 1997 (the eagle still has chest feathers & everything!!) image

I save any UNC ones with the eagle reverse. They're becoming harder to find. I got one a couple months back, a 1996. Saved it in a heartbeat.

  • Thanks for the tip from CMERLO1 on the DD to look for. I have an MS66 gem 1965 quarter that has strong Doubling on R in TRUST and G in GOD on obverse motto and lesser almost indiscernable doubling on other letters of the motto tht look fat. Is this one of the DD referred to? image
