Two new SC$ arrivals from Baltimore including an Elder-berry!!!

More nice examples of rare medals, both nice Mint State PL's with a charted course to NCS--NGC--back home--the BankBox for safe long term storage. I tried to get some angled shots to show exactly how reflective they are. The HK 829 is remarkable considering it's a Civil War Era copper medal and retains much of the original red color with an abscence of hairlines or evidence of cleaning. The only detraction is a small obverse spot at around 10-11 o'clock and some strike weakness at the centers of both sides. The Confederation Dollar is a primo Cameo PL with only some faint rim imperfections and the haziness which is typical of White Metal(Tin) strikings. This one is noticeably absent of the usual darkness or tin-pest often found. Enjoy.

the HK-866 returned home awhile ago in an MS61PL holder, a point or two lower than i'd expected. the White Metal issues are sort of tough for me to estimate since the surfaces are so delicate. the haze/oxidation that develops and clouds the fields is what makes these Tin issues so special; finding the medals without any or with minimal hazing is quite difficult and i guess it robs them of some eye appeal in the eyes of the grader. the bottom line with this Gem and the holder isn't the grade, though, it's the stability/protection it affords for long term storage.
the Aaron White Satirical Dollar, HK-829, went through NCS prior to a trip across the hall to NGC and back home. i thought that best in hopes of removing/stopping any carbon spotting which might eat away at the copper. the grade posted this morning at MS64RB which is surprisingly one point lower than my MS63RB/cleaned assessment(i assumed it would be BB'd and return in an NCS Net Graded holder). it should be interesting to see how they were able to remove that carbon spotting and how the process affected the overall appearance of this nice medal.
