Like Marty & Russ, I went to my local show today...
Went to a sister coin-club annual show this morning. Was at the local American Legion Post, about 30 dealers, no admission, lots of room in the aisles, was actually a pleasure. I had nothing on a want list (didn't want to be disappointed), so just went to see what was there and support the club. Spent a few hours there, but spent more time talking to people I think for a change. I'm in Western NY and had the usual few NY dealers, but lots of new faces up from Pennsylvania. Was lots of darkside material there this time. One guy asked me to try to put him in touch with some counterstamp collectors/sellers. PM me, I'll give you his e-mail.
Funny story - One person had a Cooks Island Weenie coin in his case, and when I chuckled, he asked why I was laughing that it was a real coin. I said I know, Tangaroa, god of fertility, Cooks Island, etc he said I was the only person in a dozen shows who knew what it was. I told him I hang out online with a somewhat groupie fan of them
(He didn't have the 94? proof set you're looking for Marty)
Nothing spectacular in purchases, was a good networking day though. Here is all I brought home. A So-Called Dollar, trade bait for Lord Marcovan, and a 1966 Netherlands coin that had some neat color that I liked.
HK 467 Greenbuck Dollar

Hey Lord M - This up your alley???

Neat Color - the images capture just a little, all the dark area is color at the right angle.

<< <i>It's actually a GreenDuck medal. NGC started calling them GreenBuck medals but recently corrected themselves to correctly calling it "GreenDuck." GreenDuck is a Chicago outfit that made custom pins and medals and, I think, ran drygood stores as well. >>
Sounds about right. Our resident SC$ guru let me know this was a misprint in the H&K book. The medal itself does say GreenDuck, but the So-Called Dollar Book made a boo-boo and cataloged it as GreenBuck, which is why NGC was labeling them as the book had it.

Yeah ... Mad Marty's obsession can be cointageous ... I went ahead and picked up a 1973 proof Weenie dollar at the coin show I went to this morning ... tho' it will probably be a while before I get around to entombing it. Other darkside included a 1925 UK farthing, a 1927 Australia florin, and a 1963 Greek 30 Drachma.
Lightside was a tad better ... finally caved in a got a 1958 Frankie with a slight hint of light pink toning on the obverse. Not quite FBL, but pretty darn close ... should go well in type set. Of course nobody around here likes Frankies very much ... be it the half or any of the singers.
