Sorry, Fur, that Castro cut is so in my blaster case that's coming tomorrow that I can already smell the cigar smoke.

Interesting side note on these cuts. I was in an antique store a couple of months ago and in the display case was an autograph book that had the pages where either somebody could sign or insert a business card sized note. The book was obviously old and the first few pages were family autos. As I turned the pages there was a FDR auto and an Amelia Earhart auto as well (insert cards/notes). The really interesting thing was a letter that was in the book from Benito Mussolini's secretary writing to the woman saying she was sorry, but at the time (I think it was the early 30's), Mr. Mussolini was not sending autos. The book was $800 and I was tempted. Maybe I could have butchered the autos and made my own 1 of 1s or turned them over to Knuckles for a really classy treatment.

Actually, the odds are pretty good and far more likely than a "normal" person to find it. The thing that really killed my interest in the hobby back in the early 90's was the massive influx of insert cards. I'd go to baseball card shows to help out the husband of one of my mother's friends as he was a card dealer. I'd go and help collect the cash and run errands for him. I remember MANY times going with giant wads of cash and buying/picking up cases of cards for him. He was buying cases to try and get rare parallels and inserts and then sell them for profit. As soon as the card was pulled, he'd sell all his extras.

When people have so much expendable income that they can quite easily throw down a few thousand dollars without blinking an eye, it all but guarantees that the kids will NEVER experience the joy of pulling a rarity out of a pack. This is because all the packs are being bought by people who don't want to pull a rarity for the joy and integrity of the card itself, but because they can only see $$$ in their eyes and they want to recoup everything immediately while preventing the youth of the hobby from ever getting to experience any joy. Sad really.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

While I would certainly love to have one of those cuts, I think the people that are putting the $3 K to $10 K BIN are smoking something to think it's worth anywhere near that. I understand they put those huge BINs trying to hook the big one, but I'm certain many feel they've hit the jackpot. As I say, nice, but no where even close worth what they are expecting.

    Yep.

    Roy Rogers on eBay
    -- Ryan Bell
  • I agree. I recently was standing in line at Dicks sporting goods and saw two A&G blasters in the aisle. I picked both up. The mom and kid behind me were talking about it. The kid asked if I collected and he told me that he did. I asked if he wanted one of the boxes to buy. Of course he said yes. It's all about sharing. I don't really do shows anymore because I got tired of being around smelly old men that were only there to toot their own horns and buy everything from the wholesaler that was there. By the time the crowd arrived there was never anything good left unless you wanted to buy from them. And that stuff was always marked up.
My hope is that we don't hear about the GW card on ebay, but on Beckett because some 5th grader pulled it from a pack.
