Where does PCGS get the replacement coins for those sent in for grade review?

For example: If a coin is sent in and not seemed a PF68 and PCGS wishes to replace it rather than paying the difference... where do they get the coins from?

They have a top secret room in the back of their grading area where they make them image

You send one in and don't pay your fees and now they have a new coin to send to a unhappy customer. just thinking. image

Maybe you get a PF69 that someone else made them buy back?

If they can't replace the coin, they have to pay the difference.

I would think they would get them from the PCGS Dealers. There are quit a few of them.

    O.k.

And one more question then I'm really gonna send my guarantee submission candidate in.

Someone said you get asked to show an invoice to prove what you paid.

What if it was simply a BST transaction?

I recently submitted 10 2006-W 20th Anniversary Silver Eagles into PCGS for their grade guarantee because my MS coins had milk spots. Apparently, PCGS can almost never remove milk spots off of MS coins so they gave me a pay out per coin. They gave me the option to get the MS69 coins back in an MS67 slab plus a fraction of the cash payout. They did not make me prove what I paid, I believe they go off of the current PCGS price guide prices..

Lots of interesting & funny responses to a typical PCGS question. Let's face it, if PCGS put up a frequently asked questions page with the CORRECT answers, we all wouldn't have any more fun asking all these kind of questions, would we? Steveimage
