Sometimes Ebay is a train wreck!

keojkeoj Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭✭
I was skimming through Trade Dollars on eBay and came across a 6 hour auction for a pretty handsome, original 1876 Trade Dollar. 1876 Trade Dollar

The only issue is that I bought this coin in Heritage's Auction a few months ago. Basically, this seller is ripping off Heritage's pictures and scamming. There were several Trade Dollars listed.

I think that I'll drop a quick note to eBay.

Is China West of Hawaii or East of Hawaii?

    Clearly a scam.

China, although technically is east of Hawaii, most folks would take the short way and head west from Hawaii to get to China.

The funny thing is that all of the buyers that left feedback were all for private listings so you can't see the items. They all became ebay members on Dec17 or 18 of 2006 in China.

    Nothing FISHY about that!

I just don't understand why ebay can't screen these listings, and at least prevent the obvious scams like this one. After all, it's not exactly rocket science, is it?image

They should be called non-service centers as there is rarely anything accomplished.

    Thanks keoj and Russ.

Because of your DD, I reported this b*stard to eBay this morning.

The text of my email to eBay.

Message: This seller listed and sold 20 of these Trade Dollars yesterday.

Look at most of the buyers all w/ low feedback.

I'm very suspicious that these coins are Chinese counterfeits or just fake photos.

No one sells 20 perfect Trade Dollars in any one auction...especially having such low feedback.

It is a known fact that China has counterfeited these coins in the past.

I'm not accusing anyone here...I'm just very conncerned.

    Thanks you**

Thanks again eBay for zapping this unscrupulous thief!!!!

    Great find keoj!!!!!!!
