FINALLY struck SILVER: roll find

Well after stopping at my local bank and getting another $20 in pennies to sort thru, I asked the same question as I ask every week. Do you have any half dollars?

I started to walk away as usual and the teller replied YES!

I said I will take em how many you got?
6 rolls the teller says.

Here are the results:

image

15 Frankies
(4) 1964 90% halves
(29) 40% halves
and the kicker (1) complete roll of bicentennials. LOL

It is about time.

After reading your post, it reminded me to call my mother(a bank teller trainer) and ask her to look for some halves. She said she found $10 worth, and brought them over on her way home. Out of it I scored (5) 90% halves and a few 40% coins. Not bad for delivered silver! I didn't even have to pay her, she just withdraws it from my account, SWEET!

Now if I can only get her to look every day, I can get loaded fast!

Looks like tomorrow I will be cruising all the banks in my area that I work in and sweet talking the cute tellers to see if I can round up any halves! I guess since I sometimes do bank escorts for them they might be willing to try to return the favorimage

I went to my bank and asked for halves and they only had two. I asked why they didn't have more and she said that they have to order $2000 at a time, so they don't do it. I will have to try other banks in the area. Great find guy.

    Yes I was pretty happy!

1st roll started out all bi-centennials. I thought O lord, here we go.

    2nd roll had 1 40 %

3rd roll was all 90 % and 1 40% I nearly fell off the couch.

Needless to say I will be stopping at alot more banks today.

I also proudly accept the (YOU SUCK!) award. I know in the grand scheme of things it's a small you suck, but it's my 1st
So I will display it proudly.

Nice haul Holeinone! I love searching boxes of halves as you never know what you may find, from silver to commems to casino tokens. I think of it like a numismatic lottery ticket which is free to play. Later on this afternoon I'll be picking up my boxes from the bank (I do 10 per week), and hope to have similar success. Here are a few photos of one of the best boxes I ever received. It contained:
    13 40% Kennedys
    3 1964's
    85 Franklins
    138 Walkers
    1 Barber
    1 Columbian Expo

Well that post pretty much answers it for me. I just went through 4 rolls just liuke pictured above and only found a 40%. I was about to ask if you guys get the silver in the sealed rolls like pictured above, because my bank said they have "as much as I want". I only took $40 worth, not wanting to overstep my boundaries with it being a fairly new branch to me. I guess I need to just go in and get whatever they will give me?

What do you guys do with the normal halves you have left over? Turn them back in at another bank? Save them as well?

I spend my leftovers from a search. I have a big bowl in the hallway full of halves and dollar coins, and the wife and I take a handful when we need some pocket money.

I haven't found any silver in years, but it is fun to search. I had a similar score to holeinone's. Sometimes you just get lucky and walk in right after someone drops an old hoard off. I once found six rolls of 90% kennedys. I went right back to the bank and got nothing but clad.

If you plan on having any success roll searching volume is key. Personally, I do 10 boxes per week, and it's not uncommon for half of the boxes to contain nothing but clad. My experience is that silver tends to show up in batches rather than consistantly throughout the rolls. After I finish, I take them to a different bank, where I also have an account, and they run them through their coin counter and deposit them for me. I sell just enough of the silver to cover the face value of what I removed and the rest goes into my silver hoard. I have been doing this for about 3 years now and have a little over a bag of 90% and almost 3 bags of 40%. Best of luck!

I can't even imagine a bank letting me buy $5000 in halves every week. I can't even get my bank to order me 1 box.

Got me 4 more 40% silver in 16 rolls today.

I am taking a lil bigger plunge and getting a $1000 box of halves in next Thursday. I hope I hit the jackpot, or at least have a good time. LOL

Well at worse you should break even unless you are shorted coins, or get tokens or something else in the rolls. The only time i got halves at the banks was a few dollars worth from another tellers drawer and the teller that helped me spotted the silver in the stack. I think there were 4 or 5 40% silver in the under $10 stack.
