Here is something you don't see everyday. Perhaps this has done some time in Ecuador?

That's weird looking. Almost looks counterfeit. Interesting.

I hadn't thought that it might bee a fake. I think it is odd looking becuase it is so rare to see a well-circulated example.

The eagle seems to have only one foot.

Ah, a pocket piece. That is another possibility.

I harbor the fantasy that this sac actually saw some honest circulation.... sighimage

Yes. It might be fresh back from Ecuador or The Dominican Republic also. They circulate widely in a few countries.

I didn't know they circulated in the Dominican Republic as well. I wish they would circulate widely here as well.

maybe it spent some time in a slot machines ????

ive never seen a dollar coin slot machine or a gambling hall to say the least
but i thought i saw one being used on the Late show with Conan last year
where he had someone gamble at a slot machine and he gave the winnings to the audience

is there such a slot machine ???

That was my thought. Mine is a VF, but rather dark.

I think it looks beautiful -

For me it further substantiates my personal belief that the Sac is the most beautiful US coin design of the past 50 years.
  • I'm curious if it was found in Colorado Springs, CO. I got one that looked similar out of the post office stamp machine. I spent it shortly afterwards.

I do really like the reverse to these.

Artist, I completely agree with you.

AJ, I got this from a bank roll in Seattle.

You know, the more I look at this image the upset I am to think that we will have to deal with the pres dollars for many years to come. At least the sacs will be in production as well. I really do wish the sac would circulate more. It would be great to have such a beautiful coin passing through one's hands on a daily basis.
  • to be honest, I like the look of circulated sacs!
  • I've seen a few circulated sacs that had most of the gold color worn off. I also like the Sac design.

Circulated Sacs are things of beauty. It's really a shame that they have never had the chance to circulate widely.

    nice photo as well..thanks!

i have had some that were VG they had so much wear.

Wow, I never imagined I would be complemented for my coin photography. I blush! image

I'd love to see some other images of circulated sacs if you have some.

I have a pocket piece that shows about as much wear as the one pictured. I, too think the design is outstanding. It seems to have much higher relief on the obverse than our other current coins do.

I need one of these in a PCGS holder graded XF45. Wonder when that will ever happen?

  • That would be a sight to see, a sac graded by PCGS this worn. Nice looking coin though, definately has seen a few hands and pockets.

There aren't many coins in circulation in the US these days that merit the comment, "Nice looking coin." Too bad the mint is about to vandalize it.

I think with more wear, she will start looking kind of like Jim Morrison of the "Doors"... with a monkey on his back image

Forget Sacagawea. Forgot the presidents. Let's have a Morrison dollar.

Some quality time in a rock tumber and a month in someone's pocket might make it to about that state pretty reliably. I thught about trying that to get a PO-1 or FA-2 specimen.

I suppose but I prefer to think that it spent some time in South America or in some parallel universe where the sac circulates in the US.

They really do look good when the circulate.

DAMN, that's an attractive eagle! I think we see too many of them to realize it, but Sacs are downright attractive coins. At least that's one design we have the mint got right.

So true, so true. In an era of appauling coin designs, the sac shows us that it is possible to produce truly beautiful pieces.

Change the date to 1900 and that coin could have fit right in with the circulating coinage of that day...

Can you say that about any of the other circulating coinage of today?

The coin isn't gold plated so there is no gold color to wear off; however, it will tone to a darker brown color.
