<< <i>Hard for me to understand why anyone would sell $9000 of coins, or anything else in such an unsecure manner. >>

HUH?? All he did was list stuff on eBay; what the hell is insecure about that? Many people do it. He is just tryin to find a way to secure payment. If he ships the coins without gettin guaranteed cash then that aint too secure. As long as he holds the goods he is ok.

I agree; demand U.S. postal money orders or no deal. Or have him send it Western Union.

    1. It's time you clue us in to the right item # as well as your eBay ID!

If he only had one listed why does it matter if he sold the other two outside of eBay; even to the same person? Wonder if he is related to Don Imus?

Nope... nothing at all through paypal... NOTHING... not after my experience.

The item is # 300144614145. Link. Yes, I guess you could call me the "modern flipper." I do it to pay for school and I don't make much more than what I need to live on so please don't tear me apart and call me greedy. That's why I've been avoiding disclosing the auction. Sorry.

What bothers me more than anything is that I had a "or best offer" auction and he basically bough them all at the buy it now price instead of giving me a lower bid. The price I had listed was purposely higher than current market price so that I could get reasonable offers. What do you think? I might just take the neg feedback and deny him the items unless he complys with bank wire or postal money orders.

Thanks guys for all your input.

    Edited to put in link.

If believed you sold the first set over market (at the buy it now price), then obviously your greed got the better of you if/when you agreed to sell him 2 more sets at the same price.

If it seemed too good to be true...

Obviously that idiot plans on scamming you. You'll NEVER see cleared funds. Relist, report him for not complying with your payment terms, take the neg. if nesc.,

I stand corrected (re: the fee avoidance).

You have to click on the History: 1offer link, there it shows that 3 were sold to a new ebay user. I sold all of them on ebay and the fees were outrageous. I have never avoided eBay fees and I always follow the rules.

From everything it does look like a scam.

Bottom line get him to send secure funds (let him deduct your paypal fee if he does it) like a postal money order and cash it at the PO and only then after you have cash send the item. If he won't go along then forget it.

Will eBay remove negative feeback if you can show the bidder tried to scam you?

I must be the exception, I have had nothing but good luck with PayPal in buying and selling. I will say that on anything that expensive I would exclude PayPal as payment, having said that I also would NOT purchase anything on ebay that expensive without paying thru PayPal or the very least paying with a CC. there is a buyers way and sellers way at looking at it. some times looking at a decent feedback rating does not tell the whole story either. when buying or selling items in the thousands it seems to be risky to me.

Don't offer paypal if you won't accept it.
If you are so worried about being scammed using it, then don't offer it as a method of payment...period!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Tell him you will pay for half of a round trip air ticket. Have him bring cash and to meet you at your bank.

Yeah, maybe if you show them a judgement or a conviction.

If you are so worried about being scammed using it, then don't offer it as a method of payment...period!

Better yet, put this verbiage in your payment methods accepted section:

"Seller, in its sole discretion, reserves the absolute right to limit the forms of payment and/or place limits on the amount seller will accept for any particular form of payment at any time based on any or all (but not limited to) any of the following criteria:

buyers feedback - either given &/or received - (total number &/or percent positive),
time buyer has been an eBay registered user,
    buyer's location &/or shipping address,
ease with which can contact buyer,
the number of times buyer has purchased similar items on eBay before,
the number of times buyer has purchased similarly valued items on eBay before,
    etc.,
    etc.,
    etc...

Buyers concerned whether or not seller will accept a particular form of payment or for a specific amount should inquire BEFORE placing bids or buying this item."

So would wiring the $$ thru Western Union be acceptable since the buyer has to put up cash at his end to get the money sent? I doubt WU accepts checks?

Just on the name of the winners Ebay ID, I would put the odds at 70% scam. It is the kind of name sock puppets and phishers tend to use. Kind of generic, but not overly generic. Common names, yet unusual in that first and last name combination. I'm sure lots of folks with common names are honest, unfortunately, scammers often use these kind of names.

With the other factors, such as the high value, the above market price close, the odds of scam go up. Doesn't look good. Be very careful.

For 9000 a plane trip and a meeting at a bank for a cash exchange might be a consideration if your profit margin allows it.

Even a phone call suggesting it might give you some idea what is on his mind.
