1889 Morgan what's up with the date?

I looked up the VAM info and did not find any info on this one. Is this considered ejection doubling?

I've seen that on some coins too--but I have no idea what it is.

Looks less like ejection doubling than a blundered date punch. Ttt this thread in the morning for the VAM crew. Maybe you found a new one!

I see a couple die chips from worn dies, and circ marks, no doubling. Possibly a doubled ear, but with so about 20 known, nearly impossible to attribute w/o coin in hand.

I should add there are 20 or so different doubled ear types.
