Do you have a coin nemesis?

Is there a dealer you just don't get on with? A competitor who seems to always be there to snap up the coin you need just before you see it? An expert you don't see eye to eye with? A buyer who purchased your precious coins, then dipped them and sold them for a huge profit?

Tell us your sordid tales!

My nemesis would be the dealer I do get along with. No problem avoiding the ones I don't.

There's a guy, I think maybe a board member(?) who goes by Morgan-hunter on Ebay. He has very similar taste to me so we bid on a lot of the same stuff. I think of him as my enemy just because it makes it more exciting, but he's probably just a good guy who doesn't know I exist. I do hate losing auctions to him though.

    SpaceMonkey.

I was going to buy the Discovery Cheerios Sacagawea. Decided to sleep on it. Woke up in the morning and knew I was going to buy it.

Went to ebay and it was GONE. Spacemonkey beat me to it.

Nemesis though?.......Naahhhh. I'd still buy him a beer. I will however continue to remind of this throughout our remaining days on earth.

I am the nemesis of at least one fellow VAM guy and there are a few that get in my way too. It is all friendly competition and the result is we each pay moere than we otherwise would. However, we reinforce a market and that is to our mutual benefit. Teh problem just is in those ultrararities that one gets and the other doesn't. Won't name names, but we all know each other well enough and (I hope) egt along just fine.

As for dealers, my nemesis is a dealer I left a want list with and went head to head in a major auction for a particular coin bidding it to the moon. I dropped out. The dealer won. Why did the dealer bids so strongly? To offer it to me. There is a point where collusion isn't really collusion and, man, we missed that mark.

seems like every coin I sell ends up being under priced and the buyer profits off it it when they sell... happened recently with that 1799 PCGS VG10 dollar on ebay... sold it for a loss... and he makes 50%, an 1806 ANACS half dollar sold today on ebay for about an $80 profit for the seller, I just about broke even when i sold it to the board member here...

Nope, everyone in the Barber Half (and other Barber denoms) community has been incredibly helpful and won't knowingly try to go for a coin you need. In fact, everyone has been awesome in helping each other out with their wants. image

I can think of 4 individuals that always seem to be there to outbid me!

I wouldn't consider them a nemesis though, just collector friends that share a common insanity! image

As far as a story goes, I was watching 4 different clip coins on Ebay and had prepared my last minute bids ahead of time.

First coin closes, I got outbid by friend #1.

Second coin closes, I got outbid by friend #1.

Third coin closes, I got outbid by friend #1.

I really wanted one of these and immediately decided that the fourth one WOULD NOT GET AWAY!

I dropped an outrageous, and I mean a seriously outrageous, bid on the last one............only to find that the underbidder was not friend #1 but friend #2! Where'd he come from? image

I w-a-a-a-a-y overpaid for that coin but had a great laugh!

Come to think of it, probably my biggest nemesis is .................... MYSELF!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

I think there is a rule in place that allows only "Superheros" to have a "nemisis".

If you are not a Superhero, then you can not have a nemisis, you can only have someone that you do not like or do not get along withimage

There's about a dozen of them, and Marty is their leader. I'm pretty sure they have regular secret meetings.
