If you could get a custom safe, what would you want????

ScarsdaleCoinScarsdaleCoin Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭✭✭
One of the leading safe companies which will be set up at COINFEST asked me what Collectors want for their safes.....

so I throw out the question to you guys....

do you want shelf for slabs?

Wood interior?

room for certain size boxes?

Post your thoughts on the ideal safe and I will get them to the right person......

then come to Coinfest and see the safe in person!

How about a couple of drawers with universal slab holders that slide out. Each drawer could hold maybe 100 slabs. Also a felt lined pullout drawer for airtites.

built in dessicant holders with an exterior monitor of interior humidity

maybe these are already out there on high end safes, just my first thought coming to mind after storing 4K in old $100 bills....ah the mildwew and it's odor....image

    (one of my rookie mistakes)

A wood interior would hold in moisture... bad idea.

What about, even better than a place to hold dessicant, a built in dehumidifier?

...to have it filled with every key date coin...all in original, problem-free high grades...image

...actually, my favorite design is the "Executive" safe...pretty much a customized gun safe with numerous shelves...

...and I like that built-in dehumidifier idea...

Yes, I'd like to have my safe with lots of shelves and everything lined in the same canvass material
that Silver dollar bags were made of! Lots of toning going on would be fun!

One with motion sensors that tell it to spray full-strength hydrochloric acid in all directions when it's moved without entering a disabling code would be nice.

I've always wanted a safe that would open normally with the normal combination BUT, there is a second combination that will open the safe. When the safe is opened with this second combination and the door opened a built in shotgun would fire directly out of the safe and take out the bad guy.

You could leave a scribbled note near the safe with this "bad guy combo" so that if a thief broke in he would see it and think you simply left the note handy because you are fogetfull and can't remember the combo. It would also work in the scenario that a theif breaks in while you are home and forces you at gun point to tell him what the combo is.

and then you could sell all your coins when the perps family sues you!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

How about a wall safe that you can open if at gun point where you keep a handful of V nickels or something of no value. If nobody's got a gun to your head, you just reach in and up, pull a concealed handle, and the floor opens up to reveal your vault where the real valuables are. If that doesn't work, I'd settle for a false back in a regular safe.

I'd definitely want everything inside to be of an inert, hydrophobic material. Some sort of water sequestering material and an external humidity readout would be great.

A false combination that, if entered, would automatically dial the police while opening the safe would be nice.

I'd prefer a bunch of customizable shelving that I could use to adjust the interior space to suit whatever goodies I had at the moment.

In conjunction with the combination, I'd also want one of these:

And finally, how about a little desk and chair for one of these guys to guard the goods from inside the safe:

I already bought a safe from Fort Knox (top brand) and it has a built in dehumidifer and lights in the safe. The lights are great for looking at the coins and with plenty of adjustable shelves I can set it up any way I like. It can't be broken into and will with stand 1600 degrees for 2 hours if there is a fire. That kind of covered it for me. I do like the idea of the pull out Slab draw.
PEACE! This is the first day of the rest of your life.

I want the one that shoots nerve gas into the room if tampered with, rendering the thieves essentially helpless and flopping around on the floor like mackeral out of the water for at least 12 hours.

    Hahaha
