That's a nice looking coin but it is a very easily detected counterfeit. The first thing to notice is the stars.
On the left the second star is the givaway. All stars have one point that points directly at the rim. This
second star and many other are dead giveaways. This one is easy.
How much gold value does it have is what I'd like to know. Is it 90%, if not it is underweight or oversized
as well. There is value to the gold for sure.

PS I've learned the hard way too, and thanks to a lot of research I do not collect gold unless it is slabbed by
PCGS or NGC. I would not even risk it in any other slab.

Here's a picture of a real 16-S, PCGS MS 67. Note the stars.

AUandAG---The placement of the stars are correct. Don't forget that counterfeiters use a real coin to create their false dies.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Oh my, that's another reason I don't collect gold! So much for good research!

  • So how do you know its counterfeit, weight and size?
  • Same size and same weight. You have to break out the diagnostic books for this one...

Many Indian tens have trouble with the starred edge. Frequently, the stars are doubled and/or are not evenly spaced.

  • The starred edge is good as well. If I remember correctly, it had to do with a few problem areas on the surface that were consistent with other counterfeits...
