Mr. Rodriguez wants 'his' baseball.

Old news and it may have been talked about already but he's offering the guy who has the 500th HR ball autographed memorabilia... by several high-profile Yankees... Guy makes 28mil a year and he can't dig deeper than that? Different strokes I guess but I would toss the guy 500k at least.. big deal..

So I agree, put it up for auction and we'll see just exactly how much, or how little A-Rod really wants it after all.
<< <i>There have been some fans who have graciously given back some key balls over the past few years. >>
In 1927, I'd have given Ruth his 60th HR ball.
In 1961, Maris would have been given his 61st ball.
In 1974, I would have gladly given Aaron his 715th.
But in 2007, the god-d*mn thing will be given only to the highest bidder.
If I was this guy I would laugh at Arod and say the price is 500K next week it will be 600K.. ( Thats in CASH ofcourse )

When it was just a game.. for sure.

<< <i>Thanks for giving me my ball back sucker! Now to eBay it! >>
But let's be honest, Arod's well on his way to 600, 700, 800 HRs, so the 500 HR ball really won't be worth all that much when those other milestones fall.

Ofcourse it will be significant though, the 500 club!
Mantle's 500th sold for $120,000 in July (Mastro) if I'm not mistaken. That makes this ball maybe worth $75K to $100K, tops IMO. #800 is gonna be the one to watch.

<< <i>Ironic that you used the phrase "When It Was A Game". That was the name of the sleaziest card company around, and they must have modeled their business practices after the 1919 Black Sox. >>
No doubt, funny how the phrase came to mind when thinking of A-Rod..
<< <i>autographs won't pay what the IRS will want.have they not sent a bill the the guy that caught bond's ball? >>
The issue of whether the guy who caught the ball is liable for taxes is undetermined.
Here a spirited discussion on the very subject. Some suggest that the ball is a "gift" others say the ball falls under the "treasure trove" section of the tax code (found treasure).
The best response I saw stated that
"I agree with whoever said it’s a gift to the fan. The team is the one who purchased the ball in the first place; they generously allow fans to keep any balls leaving the playing field (as opposed, for example, to NBA teams, who don’t). Thus, impose the gift tax on the team. Better yet - although more of a strech - call the hitter the orginal owner, and call it a gift to the fan that catches it. Wouldn’t taxing Bonds make everyone happy here?
"

Cheap Arod. If I had the ball, the price is 5 mil. You want your ball, 5 million bucks turkey or no ball. You got millions in the bank, you could make it up on the interest alone. chaz

Someone would have to be an absolute idiot to give a historic ball back to the player or the team. That would be equivalent to flushing money down the toilet.
haha That's downright hysterical. It's not record breaking, hell he's not even the only guy to get to 500 this year, let alone 600, or 756.
It would be lucky to get 100k for that ball.

Ah ha ha ha ha !! TOO damn Funny !
MEEEE TOOOOOOO
Only if you're holdin that 1927 Ruth 60th homer ball ,WOOOOO !!
That's a MONSTER PIECE !
If I were holding that 500th A-ROD Ball , I'd be asking for Lifetime season tix to the new Yankee Stadium and $50,000 cash , I don't think that is asking too much ??
<< <i>5 million?

Yeah, but guess what? It's HIS #500 Home Run Ball that matters. He wants to look at it, hold it and think back how he hit the hell out of that ball and all the ones before it. Give me the 5 mil in cash or no ball !!!! chaz
<< <i>The price of Mantle's 500th ball (Eddie Murray's notwithstanding) has, in some ways, set the market. Afterall, who aside from Babe Ruth can top Mantle in popularity and in legend status? I'd be surprised if Rodriguez's ball even topped $50K, let alone $100K. >>
There's something to be said about the hype in that it just happend though.. Like Rube mentioned Mcfarlane paid 3mil for McGwire's 70th HR ball.

<< <i>Kind of an unfair headline to this thead...he is quoted in the article you linked as saying "We have time. It's his ball. I think it's obvious I would love to have the ball." >>
I think the original poster of this thread may have taken the headline from the article as it is the same.

wonder how many free beers you could get with that ball??
