GB Packers Collectors and Fan Thread

Lately I have noticed a few new Packer collectors joining the boards. So how about our own thread to discuss our collections and our team. We could start with intros as below.

Name: Jay Radke
Home: Lake in the Hills, IL
Email: jradke4@uic.edu
Favortive Packer: Brett Favre
How long a Packer Fan: Since birth (1973)
Season Ticketholder: Yes (milwaukee games)
Best Game Attended: Superbowl XXXI
Best Game Watched: Superbowl XXXI
Collecting Focus: Mainly around Brett; his cards, auto'd cards of players who have caught TD Passes from him, and his game tickets. Though am working on older team sets as well. Plus the new not yet released Packer HOF Key Card Set (yes the Team HOF).

If someone has other suggestions for info add it.

Cant wait to hear from more Packer fans and hopefully we will be able to discuss some good times on hear.

Favortive Packer: Numerous ones but Lynn Dickey, John Jefferson, Gerry Ellis, Driver and William Henderson are on the top of the list
How long a Packer Fan: Since birth (1971)
    Season Ticketholder: No
Best Game Attended: NFC Championship against the Panthers
Best Game Watched: 1983 Monday Night football against the Redskins. Lynn Dickey lit them up.
Collecting Focus: All Packer cards raw but graded team sets from 1948-1989. HOF Rookie and the new not yet released Packer HOF Key Card Set.

I have a huge collection of raw Packer cards. Well over 12,000 different ones. Many of these cards are from my childhood collection and are just trashed. A bunch of them were local cards distributed in the Green Bay area only (Shopko, Police, Sure Way, Sentry.)

    Favortive Packer: Brett Favre
How long a Packer Fan: Since the day i was born 1985
    Season Ticketholder: No
Best Game Attended: Either 1996 NFC Championship (ICE Bowl II) or the NFC playoff game against the Seahawks a couple years back where we won in OT on an Al Harris interception returned for a touchdown.
Best Game Watched: The GB Seahawks game i was at.
Collecting Focus: Brett Favre, Rookies such as Greg Jennings and AJ Hawk. I also have a large collection of old Packer cards (1960s) I collect all the greats from the Lombardi era.
  • Hey Favrefan1971, I live in Waukesha too. Weird. If you're ever looking for some cards or vintage stuff (I have a ton of Packers yearbooks and media guides from the 60's) let me know.
I don't know though, it's hard to be a Packers fan these days (thank goodness for fantasy football, lol). I still got love for the green and gold though. Once they learn how to draft we'll be much better off.
Here's to a good year from the Pack!!!image

ebay i.d. clydecoolidge - Lots of vintage stars and HOFers, raw, condition fully disclosed.

    Email: crenderman@charter.net
    Favortive Packer: Ray Nitschke
How long a Packer Fan: Since birth (1971)
Season Ticketholder: No; however, I have been to about 1-2 games a year for the past 15 years
Best Game Attended: 10/14/2001 - Packers and Brett Favre destroy #1 Raven defense in a half rainy half sunny game at Lambeau. It almost looked as if itwas raining on one side of the stadium and sunny on the other. A rainbow was also present with the Pack making the Ravens look very average. We sat in row 45 on the 50 yard line so that helped too. A surreal game.
Best Game Watched: Superbowl XXXI (without a doubt!)
Collecting Focus: I collect Yearbook, autographed prints, memorabilia & photos - mainly form the Lombardi era and before. (My modern guys are Brett & Reggie and team signed items. Packer Pro football HOF autos, Packer games on dvd (back to late 70's) and dvds of highlights (back to the late 40's). I also just got into the graded cards and am focusing on team sets pre 1970. The idea of the new Packer Hall of fame registry set looks good too.

How long a Packer fan- From the day I started watching football... 1969 or 1970.
Season Ticket holder: I wish. I try to see them whenever they play in the NJ or Philly.
Best Game attended- The next time I see them in person. That's my answer until I see them in a Super Bowl.
Best Game ever watched- That I remember... XXXI, but my dad tells me I sat with him and watched II.
Collecting focus- I grab whatever Packer cards I find and I'm working on (barely working on) a 1964 Philly team set.

Favorite Packer: Herb Adderley, only because he went to Michigan State.

How long a Packer Fan: Never have been, never will be. Actually despise them. But . . . married me an Escanaba (Upper Peninsula, Michigan) gal 12 years ago, now I have 1/2 a family full of fans. It's pure agony to go there and visit.

Worst game ever: Was sitting in the end zone in January, 1994 when Brett Favre hit Sterling Sharpe with a late TD pass to beat the Lions in a 1st round playoff game. When Favre let go of the ball, I swore it was coming right to me in the 30th row.

As a Bear fan, I tremble at the thought of entering a packer thread, but I hope you will not cast me out!

I have a couple Packer cards available. I have two psa 9 1978 Topps Johnnie Gray cards if anyone needs it. $7 delivered each or send me a psa 9 1978 or 1980 Topps Bear that infects your Packer collection. Same with a psa 9 1981 Topps Lynn Dickey. Also, I have a psa 10 1981 topps Johnnie Gray for $20.

    Just let me know!

Favorite Packer: Hard to pick one, if I had to it would be LeRoy Butler. Overcoming a wheelchair and foot braces to end up in the Packers HOF and possibly the NFL HOF is incredible, what he's doing now with breast cancer just shows the kind of guy he is.
How long a Packer Fan: Since I was old enough to know better, probably mid 60s when we used to watch/hear whatever games we could in PA. Maybe Mike McCoy, DT not DB. He went to my high school and visited a lot in the late 70s after his retirement and when he became involved in AIA and other charity programs.
Season Ticketholder: sadly no but I have standing tickets for GB at Det and I go to any games when I can get out of work in time to get there.
Best Game Attended: 2006 Rams at Lambeau, because I got to work video on the sidelines with the players and coaches.
Best Winning game attended: XIII, tickets cost a small fortune but who knew when it could happen again. Stole a SB XIII banner that was hanging in front of our seats.
Collecting Focus: Vintage yearbooks/autographs, both graded and raw packers cards. Learned not to play pack lottery around 1997 so not so many newer packers cards.

  • CHEESEHEADS!!!

I bet each and every one of you has a yellow cheesehead somewhere in your room right now. It may be next to your collection of Schlitz beer cans in your closet. Just remember one thing.....when you are wearing that Cheesehead, other people aren't cheering and laughing with you, they are laughing at you!!! Can we do a quick count......go around your house and count each and every packer logo and get back to us. Don't forget the ones on your bed sheets!

You might think it's funny but me and a lot of my friends laugh at the people with those things on their heads. They really got popular when Favre/Reggie White and the great defense they had in the mid 90s were kicking a$$ in the NFL. Front runners bought them and paid tons of money to go see the packers. It ended up that people like me and some of my packers fan friends who live 13 hours away had to go to away games just to see them, Lambeau tickets were made out of unobtainium.

I remember sitting in the top row, 50 yard line at the Silverdome in 1996, Desmond Howard ran back a punt for a TD, I think in the 3rd Quarter. The game was decided but IIRC it was early 3rd Q. The place was 75% packers fans and 25% empty.

I also was at a game in Tampa that same year, when the stands were >50% packers fans. Some with the stupid hats, some without. I remember reading the paper in Tampa the next day and Dilfer was quoted as complaining and wishing Tampa had that kind of fan support.

It's too bad you think it's important to ridicule others. I never saw you post before so I don't know if your other 60 or so posts a year are like this one. If so maybe you should find a team that wins games, and some friends to watch the game with. Watch a few games and see how fun it is when your team has good players. I think a lot of "cheeseheads" were fans for a couple years and lost interest when 13-3 turned into 9-7 and 8-8.

  • It's comical how defensive you people get right away when somebody pokes fun at a piece of yellow foam you wear on your head! Remember, if you're sitting alone in your room right now and getting mad at words on your computer screen, you may need to get out and socialize more often. If your friends are no longer identified by their names and only known by little thumbnail pictures, it's sending a strong message to you!

Four hats, two jackets and a chair..........close enough! Did you count the refrigerator magnets and the yellow license plate on your car?

    JimQ,

I was at that game too. One of the most embarassing things I've ever witnessed as a fan of any Detroit sport. It was literally a home game for the Packers. It's really hard to explain how one sided the crowd was.
