So did they elaborate on what the complications were? He could also be followed and watched after that. >>
Nope. Even better was I spoke with the postal inspector in Houston ( Oh yes I have his name ) who said " I don't see what the problem is, you DID intercept the package and the post office said they'd mail it back, so what's the problem?"
<< <i>Tom, It may be worth calling your local newspaper (or CNN) and get a story done about law enforcement's apathy towards these crimes targeting hard-working people trying to earn an honest living. That may generate some action. >>
Really. I was thinking 20/20. This is a homegrown scam and law enforcement nor the postal authorities seem to be willing to do anything about it.
Such police apathy is why vigilantism is on the rise. It may have been mentally worth the effort and expense for you to fly there yourself and stake out the place, waiting for the criminal to show up.
My own experience with the Postal Inspectors is that they are utterly worthless. A couple of years ago, I was defrauded of a few thousand dollars by an individual. The only help they offered was to tell me to report the offender to the BBB. Can you imagine that? I had everything documented, but unless there were multiple complaints against an individual or business, they were "too backlogged to do otherwise". The Postal Inspection service is at best a joke. When it comes to the real world, we're on our own.

We received an envelope, with no return addess on it today by the way. Thought it was your typical spam-junk mail. Opened it anyway and there's a postcard inside! From the postal inspector general. I kid you not. Generic card, advising if they decide more info is needed then they'll be in touch. That's it.

Let's be fair, Tom, not all of them are worthless but I will give you that many governmental employees ARE worthless. Hard to fire them and they have a "buddy"/"family" system in getting jobs. Luckily, I have good postal people in my main branch but I do know there are some really lazy ones that should be shown the door.

I was referring to the investigative and law enforcement end of this particular experience. Local and federal. I'm well pleased at how Miss Ketty at our local branch did what she did to help protect our backsides. She's a peach

I received one of those as well.
Don't hold your breath that you'll ever hear from them again.

glad to hear that you got the package ( and coins) back!
sad to hear about all the trouble you had to go thru and the seemingly lack of interest on the part of officials who are supposed to help US during these times
<< <i>So, have you actaully received the coin in question. I wouldn't sleep until it was back in my hand. >>
Yes, got both of them back thankfully, thank you. Had we not sent numerous faxes, left notes under the door of the employee entrance to the post office here in the middle of the night, had personally gone to the post office here before the opening, I believe the dirtbag who tried to rip us off with numerous bad checks ( and who has ripped off others in the business and hobby as well ) would have been cracking out an 1850 and 1855-S Double eagle by now in order to sell it on ebay or locally, wherever that locally turned out to be.
Russell Harrison from Houston is at it again. He tried to pass a fake cashiers check with us. No loss of coins on our part, which means our police will be even LESS interested than they usually are with cases of fraud/theft.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
