1972 Sunoco Stamps (NFL), Anyone Old Enough to Remember Getting These?

This is not mine, stolen from a current ebay auction. I remember my dad bringing these home in the fall of 1972. Really good memories to me. Can anyone explain what's going on with the PSA holder / sleeve? Is a sleeve the size of the holder slabbed between the two plastics? I've seen the sleeves within the "insert space", but not beyond it.

Love the stamps!
They look way better than those ugly airbrushed Topps cards of the era.
Have a complete set all in raw form and they are spectacular ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
My interest in this set revives, sporadically. I had @ 75-80 loose ones in the late 70's I got from a friend of mine. Unfortunately, I left them in my jacket pocket, the jacket got washed and...well, you know.
Cut to the early 90's, when I picked up a few singles of players I liked (Jim Marshall, Paul Warfield) and a couple of opened, but still undetached and complete 9 stamp panels featuring Charlie Joiner.
Cut again to early 2006 when I got a couple of complete team sheets on eBay (which are especially cool, since they have a few extra players, almost like an update set, that aren't in the regular set.) and then finally to a few months ago when I got the basic album and around 20 books, which I had a blast opening.
Thanks,
