It shouldn't be but we will never know for sure. What really bothered me besides the low voter turnout, was that 436 votors were disenfranchised because they didn't put their ANA member number on the ballot even thou they were told to do so. Tells me many people are so afraid of being identified that they miss a chance to make a difference. JMHO. Steve
I'm very impressed with the electorate in sizing up the candidates and electing a reform slate. Although not all of my choices prevailed, it looks like we have a very strong board.
I can't think of a clearer repudiation of the regime of Horton/Cipoletti regime than these results. Reinstating Dr. Ostromecki cleary sent the message that the ANA members won't allow the governors to arbitrarily overturn the wishes of the electorate. I agree with Mischler's suggestion - we must audit the results of the past 5 years, preferably without the Executive Director's interference. I think that we'll see better communications and more outreach to the membership with far less arrogance than in the past. I think that Horton was a bit delusional when he assigned himself a grade of A/B+ in the latest issue of the Numismatist. The ANA electorate clearly gave him a failing grade!
Don't worry about Cipoletti's future. Bill Horton is Superintendant of Public Works in Ramsey, NJ. I'm sure that he can find gainful employment for Cipoletti in his department. Maybe driving a garbage truck or something. I don't even think he would need a confidentiality agreement for that job.
Mike, you had a very respectable showing! Be proud of your effort and keep trying. The ANA needs more leaders like you!
The turnout seemed low. I have to wonder how many voters were disenfranchised by the ballot distribution fiasco. I received my ballot quite late, and I'm sure that others didn't receive them at all. Did this contribute to the low turnout?
And rejecting ballots because they weren't mailed in the "official" envelope? A clear sign that election reform is needed!
I'm a bit surprised that Rochette wasn't the vote leader. No offense to Krause and Mischler (both of whom I supported), but Rochette is the nearest thing to a legend that the ANA has.
Let's pray for the health of the current board members. Herbert is next in line in the event of a vacancy on the board. Of course, it could be fun to see him on a board that has Dr. Ostromecki in the majority.

I want my 41 cents back! Can't complain about the results too much, I went 5/7.
Cooler heads will prevail and I think the new members of the board of governors ought to shut up and listen .... Not to the hierarchy but to the collector. Those of you who only have an axe to grind really annoy me. Those with a chip on their shoulder are not even the type I want to be in the same country with. We need TEAMWORK, not another Jerry Springer show. If Cipoletti offers to work with you, you ought to try working together...., not come in with a pre-conceived notion that he is the bad guy. Could be (probably is) that most members are simply subscribers to the magazine or want to put "Member of ANA" on their advertisements and really don't have an interest in club politics. I'd much rather have these people not vote than cast an "I keep getting a nice magazine, so everything must be OK" vote. I want these people more informed about what the ANA really is and does before I want them voting. Remember the recent show report on what subjects got the biggest reaction? It was something like anniversary pins, logo design, and the Official Bourse Candy of the ANA, IIRC.
I'm sorry you weren't elected Michael. You were one of the two candidates I voted for that I believed had the qualifications to fix a disfunctional nonprofit organization. I don't believe any of the elected directors have a clue how much time will need to be spend if they really want to fight the bylaw change (I may not like the changes but believe only a few sections need immediate tinkering). On the bright side you won't have to deal with the infighting and hidden agendas.
Cliff's remarks are apparently going to be in the next "Viewpoint" of Numismatic News. I agree with his remarks and hope and expect he will provide the leadership (hopefully along with Barry) to move the ANA forward for the benefit of all. Steve

Thank you Dennis for your kind words and your support. Here is the kicker about campaign budgets - mine goes like this: Domain name - $1.99/yr (shut down as of yesterday), Web pages for the campaign from the dorancoins.com website - $3.00/month (pages taken down as of yesterday), Campaign video - a few man hours and some of my visual creativity despite some limited video technology, Talking to you guys on CU and ATS during this campaign - lots of hours but indeed a lot of fun, Flyers - $25.00 at OfficeMax, Accomplishing what I did - priceless. Doran Campaign = Shoestring budget, Everyone Else's Campaign = Hundreds and even Thousands of Dollars. I can tell you that I beat out John Eshbach by 7 votes and Donald Dool by 200 votes and yet they spent more on their campaigns than I did and I was probably the only one with a campaign website and campaign commercial. And Art Fitts (a former governor) beat me out by 31 votes, Schwenker by 55 votes, and Bourne (now an ex-governor) by 64. To me the fact that I had almost as much votes as these guys is weird because they are respectively-known names and mine is a lesser known one outside of Illinois. My overall perspective on this campaign was that it was interesting and fun. Now, as I told everyone else, I am taking a breather and I am working on the planning stages of the upcoming Central States elections in 2008 (third attempt for a governor's seat).

IMHO, the ANA has not decided to abandon it, but having given it to a judge, the judge will take his time and return his findings.
If the ANA decided to abandon it, they certainly would have announced it!!

Regardless of what the judge comments about the acusations, I don't think any action will be taken by the board. Some announcement about this should come out before the convention, I would expect. Steve
Is it safe to say, that in addition to everything else....this was an election of professional dealers vs collectors who might sell a few coins occasionally?

<< <i>The ANA members have done their job and elected a brand new slate of representatives. I have high hopes that the newly elected governors will do the right things for us, and let's just close the chapter on the previous board, who will go down as the worst in ANA history. >>
<< <i>On another note, whatever happened to the investigation of alleged ethics violations by Stuppler, Krause and Mishler?
Has this been resolved, or can it be sprung on us as a surprise immediately before the installation of new Governors?
Anybody know anything? >>
Haven't heard anything, my guess is the ANA has decided to drop the matter without comment.
If the ANA decided to abandon it, they certainly would have announced it!!
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Which group would rule, ultimately, on it...outgoing Board or incoming Board, should it come to that?

Outgoing has it until the new governors are sworn in. If the current lame-duck board sits on it and does nothing, it would go to the new board.
