Proof Pres. Dollars~~ IS THIS AN ERROR????

I received my order of Proof Presidential Dollars today. After examining some of them I noticed some of the Adams Dollars and Madison Dollars have brown spots on them.
Is this an error or just a lack of care in the minting of the coins???

It's not an error. A few of mine got sneezed on, too.
  • yeah, i have seen them on some of mine as well... overall i thought the pres proofs were going to be so cool... but after having them in hand... I am "somewhat" disappointed. While they look much more interesting than the UNCs I feel the relief design is a bit mushy unlike the Sacs for example. Although, I really do like the Texture that is on the Devices... a bit of sparkle, like gold dust. Just wish the relief designs were more bold.

All of mine where like that. I kept the best set and sent the rest back for credit. They were so bad I just figured they all looked like that and didn't want replacements.

  • Both sets I ordered had spots on one or more coins. One Monroe had a big stain covering about 20% of the forehead. Sent them back and just bought a set of 69s.

  • these will spot just like the sacagawea, same planchet. i`m sure these are similar to carbon spots on zincolns. they almost all have carbon spots.

    I agree.
  • I sent my two sets back. Washington had red splotches on both sets. From reading here, I hope I get at least one set without splotches.

Nope. It's called crappy manufacturing by the good folks at the mint.
