Question for Cal Ripken- What the hell?

It took him 50 years to come out of his shell, and now you can't watch TV without seeing him (at least in MD). I'm not saying he's gotta stay quiet, but QVC? Really?

I should really drive up to Aberdeen and tell him what's up.

Tape the show, then list it on ebay as a super rare collectible of a live Ripken appearance. And don't forget to have PSA grade & encapsulate the VCR tape.

The QVC show tonight is through Ironclad Authentics. I personally don't see a problem with it. After all, the company was started in an effort to provide his fans with legit autographs. I've been able to get a signed picture through them and they posted a banner for my site on Cal's page. They're a great group to interact with.

I always thought Cal looked just like Garth Brooks (but only when clean shaven). This is especially true for his 1991 Studio card.

He's doing a one-time shot with the HOF induction to promote his charity.

Sure, he could have used less cheesy avenues but don't think less of your childhood who is now hocking products on QVC and looks like a total tool.

Comeon ripken, I'm a Cal fan like most people who grew up here and the crap he's selling is fine, but it's QV freakin C. He's gotta stand next to that clown next to him and answer his stupid questions with a smile. Not to mention all of the other goofy promotions he's done over the last 2 years. It's really out of character for him and totally getting out of hand. He needs a selling-out intervention.

i stayed at a holday inn a couple of months ago and i didnt get a cal ripken pilow card,all ig to was a bill!althogh they did have a great max and ermas resteraunt in there so all the guys at the military show could get drunk lol, not a good idea, i know a guy that owns the one here in town,have to check and see if they got any left

i got ripped off lol, damn hotels

stown- it's too late. My childhood is completely ruined. This would be like if Alan Ashby, Jose Cruz or Bob Watson started selling out (Sorry, those were the best career Astros I could think of).

Yea, I also live in Maryland. I think they must have passed a law here that all TV and radio stations have to air a Cal Ripken commercial every 15 minutes.

... and a Comcast commercial every 10 minutes.

Then of course, there's those great Cal Ripken / Comcast commercials.

I'm not saying he's a bad guy or not a good role model. All I'm saying is that this is media blitz with him is totally out of character and it's hard to watch him sell himself like this. He's on Holiday Inn cards holding pillows for the big guy upstairs' sake. Pillows!!

You could say he's only doing this during the HOF induction hoopla, but you didn't see Eddie Murray on QVC or doing stupid commercials when he was being inducted.

I haven't seen what you're all talking about on TV, but maybe I'm not getting the same QVC ?

I suppose I would feel the same watching Reggie do the same .

Not that I am comparing the two, just he was my childhood hero, along with Munson and Nettles and Lousianna Lighning .

Maybe he misses being in the limelight or maybe they made him an offer he couldn't refuse , I would like to think and he probably is doing it for the benefit of others ?

But I have heard them say that a lot of times , we're only gonna release a certain amount of this, that or the other thing and that's it . Like the coins for instance . . .

I would hate to be burned like that , something like that would make me very mad if they said they were only going to release or there are only X amount and I come to find out later they're still doing it .

Maybe you have to record the show and play it backward at half speed to hear see the subliminal message

In other news Cal Ripken will sell his sole later this week on eBay.
