It took him 50 years to come out of his shell, and now you can't watch TV without seeing him (at least in MD). I'm not saying he's gotta stay quiet, but QVC? Really?
I should really drive up to Aberdeen and tell him what's up.
Tape the show, then list it on ebay as a super rare collectible of a live Ripken appearance. And don't forget to have PSA grade & encapsulate the VCR tape.
That's a sharp lookin Ripken pillow card. Now if you'll excuse me I'll have to throw up repeatedly as I'm personally witnessing one of my childhood heroes selling out like a VH1 reality show contestant.
<< <i>I got this in a complimentary pack of cards during a stay at a Holiday Inn a couple months ago. This, too, made me wonder, "What's up this guy?" >>
Is it just me or does Cal look more and more like Anakin Skywalker everyday

The QVC show tonight is through Ironclad Authentics. I personally don't see a problem with it. After all, the company was started in an effort to provide his fans with legit autographs. I've been able to get a signed picture through them and they posted a banner for my site on Cal's page. They're a great group to interact with.

I always thought Cal looked just like Garth Brooks (but only when clean shaven). This is especially true for his 1991 Studio card.
He's doing a one-time shot with the HOF induction to promote his charity.
Sure, he could have used less cheesy avenues but don't think less of your childhood who is now hocking products on QVC and looks like a total tool.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
Comeon ripken, I'm a Cal fan like most people who grew up here and the crap he's selling is fine, but it's QV freakin C. He's gotta stand next to that clown next to him and answer his stupid questions with a smile. Not to mention all of the other goofy promotions he's done over the last 2 years. It's really out of character for him and totally getting out of hand. He needs a selling-out intervention.
i stayed at a holday inn a couple of months ago and i didnt get a cal ripken pilow card, all ig to was a bill!althogh they did have a great max and ermas resteraunt in there so all the guys at the military show could get drunk lol, not a good idea, i know a guy that owns the one here in town, have to check and see if they got any left i got ripped off lol, damn hotels randy matt,in that pic he could be a stunt doulbe for anakin skywalker lol randy
I liked him better when he was uncomfortable with the attention and awkward around people.
stown- it's too late. My childhood is completely ruined. This would be like if Alan Ashby, Jose Cruz or Bob Watson started selling out (Sorry, those were the best career Astros I could think of).
If being QVC is the worse thing you can say about Cal, I must say he is STILL the best role model sports figure. At least he's not hosting dog fighting or betting on his own sport.
<< <i>stown- it's too late. My childhood is completely ruined. This would be like if Alan Ashby, Jose Cruz or Bob Watson started selling out (Sorry, those were the best career Astros I could think of). >>
You forgot about one player that you know all too well.

Hypothetically if they somehow landed on QVC, I would probably max out my credit card

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
Yea, I also live in Maryland. I think they must have passed a law here that all TV and radio stations have to air a Cal Ripken commercial every 15 minutes.
... and a Comcast commercial every 10 minutes.
Then of course, there's those great Cal Ripken / Comcast commercials.
I'm not saying he's a bad guy or not a good role model. All I'm saying is that this is media blitz with him is totally out of character and it's hard to watch him sell himself like this. He's on Holiday Inn cards holding pillows for the big guy upstairs' sake. Pillows!!
You could say he's only doing this during the HOF induction hoopla, but you didn't see Eddie Murray on QVC or doing stupid commercials when he was being inducted.
I agree it does seem a little strange . I haven't seen what you're all talking about on TV, but maybe I'm not getting the same QVC ?
I suppose I would feel the same watching Reggie do the same .
Not that I am comparing the two, just he was my childhood hero, along with Munson and Nettles and Lousianna Lighning .
Maybe he misses being in the limelight or maybe they made him an offer he couldn't refuse , I would like to think and he probably is doing it for the benefit of others ?
And Mr.Lawnmowerman , you're too damn funny with those pictures Man . . . I'll clean the coffee off the screen now . . . Thanx !
West Chester, PA (July 19, 2007) – Cal Ripken, Jr. is scheduled to celebrate his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame with a special QVC broadcast live from Aberdeen, Maryland, on July 23 from 9 PM to 11 PM (ET). The two-time Most Valuable Player will debut his new autographed line of Hall of Fame collectibles, created specially for QVC in conjunction with leading sports memorabilia manufacturer IronClad Authentics, LLC.
Signature items include a Cal Ripken, Jr. Team Signed Limited Edition 1983 Jersey, Baltimore Orioles 1983 Team Signed Limited Edition Louisville Bat, and a Cal Ripken, Jr. Hall of Fame Autographed Career Ball.
Known to Orioles fans and baseball enthusiasts everywhere as "The Ironman," Ripken was elected into this year's Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot with 98.5 percent of the votes – the third highest percentage of all time. The 19-time All-Star and record holder for consecutive games played is also one of only eight players in major-league history with more than 400 homeruns and 3,000 hits.
"Cal Ripken, Jr. is truly one of baseball's most respected and beloved players and his induction into the Hall of Fame solidifies his position as a living legend," said Rich Yoegel, director of merchandising for QVC. "We are honored to celebrate this moment in history with Cal and are excited to be able to connect him with collectors and fans."
"The QVC brand values product quality and customer trust, two qualities that we strive for in Ironclad Authentics and other Ripken Baseball business endeavors," said Ripken Jr. "I've enjoyed my previous QVC experiences this year but this up-coming broadcast will be very special for several reasons. It is just a week prior to my Baseball Hall of Fame induction, my wife Kelly will make a guest appearance to launch her new product and we are broadcasting live from our Ripken Baseball complex, located in my hometown of Aberdeen, Maryland."

LMMFAO @ The SUBLIMINAL DISCLAIMERS , that is too funny . But I have heard them say that a lot of times , we're only gonna release a certain amount of this, that or the other thing and that's it . Like the coins for instance . . .
I would hate to be burned like that , something like that would make me very mad if they said they were only going to release or there are only X amount and I come to find out later they're still doing it .
Maybe you have to record the show and play it backward at half speed to hear see the subliminal message
Holy $349.99 kiss my @$$ Batman!! There's now way I would spend that much on a signed Ripken ball, and I'm totally an up-his-butt fan!! They price those things as if he's dead or something!! Geesh...
Cal Ripken's wife decided that she was pissed that Cal was selling all this stuff so she looked at her PSA 10 Cal Ripken Pillow Card and came up with this..... ULTIMATE CAL SELL OUT
In other news Cal Ripken will sell his sole later this week on eBay.
Regarding the comment about Cal not fighting dogs- well they have not proven that yet, but he does admit to beating bunnies Cal Ripken abuses bunnies
