Teletrade - Raw Coins

How long have they been accepting raw coins for consignment?

The grading fees seem reasonable compared to the Collectors Club rates.

Has anybody used their services?

Are you saying TT will accept your raw coins, send them for certification, and then auction them?

I seem to recall reading that you can send raw coins to Teletrade and that they would submit them to PCGS themselves, if found worthwhile.

Quite a while, I think. They key is that you get them submitted once and then they have to get listed. You can't just submit through them, and if you disagree with the grade, you can't resubmit.

I'll bet it's been close to ten years since they've started that program.

They have been doing it as long as I can remember. Even back to the days of the weekly mail catalogs and dial in to the auction via phone (no internet access). Also, no pics - you had to decide what to bid based on the grade and theie description.

At least 14 years. I never used it as I like to know the sertified grades before I choose where to sell them. Seemed like a good deal for those who like the idea though.

Longer than that-at least back to 1991 when I first used 'em.

Last time I sent anything to them the photography was really lousy on some truly beautiful rainbow stuff. I took a beating on the prices realized because of that. I would NEVER use them again unless I could get, in writing, a guarantee of good photography.

I have used the raw program extensively over many years. Works great for me.

If you have a bunch of coins you are looking to flip, that would benefit from certification, and you don't want to tie up money in upfront grading fees, it is a GREAT route! One of the few true bargains out there.

As far as lousy pix on toners, yes , I have had a similar experience once or twice, especially on certain types of toned coins that are often times hard to photo advantageously (certain Jeffs and some clad moderns come to mind). But the pix have improved a lot lately. The gal taking them is pretty good and improving as she goes.

Also, regular TT'ers have learned thru experience which coins are difficult to show colors on and will generally bid accordingly, knowing that the coin in hand will often be far more attractive than the image.
