Hello, Gents,
A few months ago I posted here, asking for advice as to which U.S. series would be most appealing for a Darksider, such as myself, specializing in Spanish Colonials and early Mexican Republic pieces. A number of you mentioned Bust series and I started to keep an eye out for these. Today I finally found one that displayed all of the characteristics that attract me in my primary focus - original skin, condition, etc. I haven't purchased Overton, yet, but the dealer is an honest lad with whom I have a long history. I don't like buying things for my primary collection without knowing exactly what it is I am getting, but in this case I made an exception. Overton's "Early Half Dollar Die Varieties 1794 - 1836" will be my next purchase.
This piece definitely makes me want to educate myself more on the series.
Would love to hear the opinion of this esteemed board.
I took the first photo to show the wear and the second to show the color.

Thanks for taking your time to read this.
Cheers,
~Roman

What a nice coin you have there. I too just purchased an 1832 CBH not 5 minutes ago.
I can't attribute the variety because I don't have my book with me as I am running around tonight, but would like to comment on your coin.
What a beauty. Good choice on a first purchase...wish my first CBH were as nice.
Your coin looks to have just honest wear and don't be fooled by that reverse shield-that looks to be just a weakly struck area not a worn specimen. There are some rough 32 reverses out there. If my memory serves me, many of the arrowheads are crude and the shields weakly struck. Your coin has character up the wazoo and the type of toning that I love---it shows off the design against the coins fields to perfection.
Great Late Die State of a beatiful coin. This one looks to have AU details or very close to it if not.
I like your coin a lot.

Great BST purchases completed with commoncents123, p8nt, blu62vette and Stuart. Great coin swaps completed with rah1959, eyoung429 and Zug. Top-notch consignment experience with Russ.
<< <i>Great looking first CBH and excellent photos...Look forward to seeing more(assuming you'll soon be hooked on busteze). >>
If I continue finding the same quality pieces - you bet I'll be back

Thanks, 123. I noticed that this is "the look" that apparently is the most appealing to me. My latest Darkside submission grades were XF45, XF45, XF45, XF40 and all with nice, dark skins, just like the one above
As for the overton book, get it and you won't be disappointed. Also, i'd watch for a third edition of the book instead of the 4th (and newest) edition.

I am glad this one worked out good for you. It sure is a nice one.
Here is a pic of the 32 I purchased just before I opened your thread.
This one is O-105a, an R4 coin in an NGC 53 slab. I think we both did well.
Nice coin and welcome to the Crusty Busty World.....
