2007 Upper Deck Artifacts Blaster Box Rip

I just busted a box of UD Artifacts from Wal Mart. On the front it said you would find a memorabilia card in every box. So I rip into the packs and find a Dice K rookie and a Khalil Greene jersey card. Don't really know who he is but I was happy with the Dice K rookie. But what caught my attention was a penny sleeve with a card in it inserted bewteen the packs. This must be the memorbilia card they say you will find in every box. What does it turn out to be? It's a 2002 UD Diamond Connection quad bat card of Corey Patterson, Russell Branyan, Adrian Beltre and Adam Dunn. I thought it was kind of odd to find a 2002 card repacked into a 2007 box.

Not the best box, but I can't complain for $20. Anyone else bust one of these boxes yet?

The guaranteed auto is a repurchased one that you're guaranteed. The 2007 Khalil Greene was one that you just got off of luck.
  • I know nam812 bought one yesterday and he pulled an older quad bat card - Sosa Griffey Jr Arod and Helton, his was diamond cut pretty bad, is yours the same way?

    Even still , for 20 bucks ?
    That's not bad at all . . .
I've been cracking the Football and really haven't pulled anything sweet to speak about .

I'm trying to get the 2007 UD Premier Football but the guy I usually get my premiums from hasn't got them yet . . . sooooooo, I wait and I wait and I wait .

My son and I are just dying to see what we're gonna get .
3 auto's in every pack they're saying . . . on average and we are pretty big on autos .

Thanks for the heads up on the B/B, I'm gonna hafta check that out .

Just picked up a box. Not too bad for $20. Pulled a Jose Reyes jersey out of the regular packs and a 2001 ud evolve Pat Burrel Jersey #292/300 as the guarantee. I don't have much interest in modern stuff, if anyone is interested in these, I would trade these for any game used Reds cards.

I'd rather have a pack of 1978 Topps, but that's just me. Here's the thing- you're basically buying two cards for the $20, and one you know isn't going to be that great. You know they didn't save any Ruth, or even Ripken autos for this product. They're basically getting rid of their leftovers. The commons from any modern set are pretty much worthless, and you're not even guaranteed to pull a jersey/auto besides the "artifact". So you're paying $20 for a hand-me-down jersey/auto and a chance at another jersey or auto. This is like buying those plastic cubes full of cards they had at K-Mart in the 90s. Sure you COULD pull something, but not very likely.

Honestly, I dont want to be the guy that pees in the ice cream, but save the $20 you spend on this Wal-Mart junk each week and at the end of the month go to baseballcardexchange.com and pick out something nice. Hell, if you feel the need to stick with modern, at least with $100 you could get a box of SP Authentic or a few boxes of Heritage something.
  • The ice cream is now yellow. Good advice but you just crushed a lot of dreams out there.image

For the most part I agree with you 100%. I certainly didn't expect UD to hold back a Babe Ruth auto for a $20 walmart box. I really only collect vintage, but got the bug to open a few packs lately. Rather than blow my entire months budget on a good box or a few older packs, this really did the trick. I was hoping one of the jerseys would be a Reds player, but it was fun nonetheless. I still have plenty left over to work on the '55 Topps set too.

I know goot, but I'm talking from experience. I spent my teens and early 20s buying everything I could afford in dribs and drabs. Now I wish I had saved and actually bought the stuff that I really wanted. For example, instead of buying 50 packs of 1991 Leaf for a few months, I could've had a NM Mike Schmidt rookie. I guarantee the more of this crap you buy, the more you'll regret not saving and buying good stuff in the future. I know how it feels to need to be in the action and constantly opening packs looking for the big hit, but you get so much more for your money.

And yes I did get a 4 piece bat card in my Artifacts blaster like Heritage Addict said. Im guessing that these are left overs from unclaimed redemptions, and cards that werent up to snuff since mine has a noticable tilt cut. Still, it has a book value of $40, and when I set up at my next show (small neighborhood show), i'll mark it at $25 and there is no way it will go home with me.

I think I'm actually going to take your advice. I normally spend like $15 a week on packs from wal mart and although I have no problems with base cards and thats what I actually collect(of my favorite players and teams), I really want to buy my first "real" box. The only problem with saving my money is that I'm 16 and impatient and want to rip stuff all of the time. I might still buy the $0.50 packs at my local card shop, I mean who can turn down 2003 Fleer tradition hobby packs for that price?image

Believe me, I know Goot. I ripped my share of new product from 1992-1998 that turned out to be complete junk. A few bucks here, a few bucks there- it really adds up. All of the sudden you have five 5000 ct boxes of commons from 5 years ago that aren't worth di*k. It's really whatever you're preference is- do you feel the need to gamble now or would you like to gather a nice collection. If gambling's your thing, then go for it, but do so knowing it's a losing battle.

Goot - Find a product you like, and check what your local card shop is selling it for. Then go to a local show, and walk the whole room (most shows have 2 or 3 guys selling wax) and you will see the box you want for much less at the show than in the store. Save up for a few weeks, and when you have $75 to $100 to spend you can find a nice product with nice rookie potential and some guaranteed "hits" in it.

Surprisingly, playing poker puts a lot of perspective on how you allocate your money. You think poker and you think "gambling", but really the heart of being a winning poker player is knowing what's a worthwhile investment.

I'm not one that expects big hits from wal mart stuff I just do it for fun. I even got my girlfriend into football cards now so that's pretty cool. I wish I could have a paypal account b/c I'd just be buying nice Braves or Bucs cards online instead of cheap boxes at the store each week but oh well I just have to wait a few more years. Seriously though, thanks for the advice thats why I joined these boards in the first place, to learn.

No, my card was in decent shape. Which is suprising considering it was just in a penny sleeve and stuck bewteen a couple of packs.

I just grabbed this box because I was in the pack busting mood. I generally don't buy alot of new cards other than Papelbon and Vinatieri, I know that I am usually gonna get nothing when I buy a box. I don't gamble other than the occasional box of new shinny stuff. image
