Scotsman's auctions--an emerging threat to Heritage?
Not, not really.
I did view their latest auction coins today (all of the 19th century gold and most of the 19th century silver) and was pleasantly surprised. There are quite a few nice coins, in nearly all budgets, starting at $150 or so and on up. Sure, there were some dogs, but their descriptions were more than fair. In fact, a couple of the coins that they titled as being "cleaned" did not seem likely they were all that bad. Their photography has improved, and, for the first time, their catalog was in full color. I would say that the photographs are as good as any other auctioneer's and better than most.
I plan to bid strong on at least two coins.
Rick Raaf and the rest of the staff work hard to put together a respectable offering.

They were both Kennedy halves--you wouldn't be interested.

Modern crap!
(Yes, I'm kidding.)

Ziggy, you can't joke around like that. The modern police will cite you for "modern bashing"!
In fact, other than three 1904 blinding bright NGC-graded $20's, I do not remember a single 20th century coin.

I think this is misdirection to throw the gold hounds off the scent.

Okay, for grins, I will tell you. The raw 38-D $5 and one of the Bechtlers. Really. I don't think anyone here cares for that esoteric "Old Pioneer Gold Crap," and surely no one has the cajones (or an IQ low enough) to bid on the raw 38-D $5 sight-unseen.
