I wish I had moxie enough to buy a nice Indian Gold, but alas, I am compelled to buy as many American Gold Eagles as I possibly can.image

I love that silver toning! Reminds me of a 1909-D I had a few years ago.

Um, are you sure that's original? Mighty odd color for a $5 Indian, or any 90% gold coin for that matter.

I have it on good authority that it is.

That's a pretty common toning pattern on $2-1/2 and $5 indians. I have had them with a green, blue or copper tint as well as the silver color. It would be great to collect these in nice MS grades with colors like this. image

It already has the best seal of approval one could hope for, (and, I'm not talking about the PCGS slab).

I don't mean any disrespect by my comment, just that on my screen it looks orange with patches of varying color including near white like down on the Indian's neck and in the feathers. To me it looks to have heavily altered surfaces, but I could be wrong, maybe it's just my monitor settings. Typically they should be basically yellow, granted you can get very light pastel streaks of rose, pink or green but nothing too far off the mark from yellow. Here's one that I am fairly certain is original, it's just boring yellow though.

Well, I bought it. I called Mark Feld when I received the coin today and left him the message that the RYK Consortium™ had approved the coin. He sent me an email back saying that if it were approved by any Consortium, it would cost me 20% more. imageimage

BTW, Russ' photo is dead-on. It is a very unusual coin. As a half eagle collector, I had always intended to buy an Indian $5 but was waiting for the right coin. This one is definitely it! image

I for some reason don't like it. I like the bright yellow ones best.

I could see that color coming from a long stay in a leather pouch.

I could also see it coming from surface residue.

If I owned it, I'd put it under a 30X loupe and see if anything was sitting on the surface of the coin.

Anyway, it's a nice looking coin...

The sticker needs to be larger, and it should cover the entire coin.

Is it true that these stickers actually exist in physical form? Will they be present at the ANA? It could cause quite a stir.
