The Abbey cent is actually a possibility to own as it will be up for public sale in Walter Husak's fantastic large cent sale by Heritage at the February 2008 Long Beach Signature Sale. I predict this sale will surpass all others.

Actually, I had Lasik surgery seven and a half years ago, and the results were amazing. Just two minutes of treatment and I've been 20-20 ever since.
The flip side though, was with glasses, I could take off the glasses and bring coins right up to my face and see them in crystal clear sharpness. Now I need to keep them at more of a normal distance and use a loop if I want to see minute details.
In any case, computers, scanners and digital cameras allow the study of small coins (or any coin) beyond what I could have done with my eyes alone.
Take for example the half disme. I can really appreciate the fine detail and the quality of the strike when I view it like this:
However at life size, with the naked eye, it looks like this:
At this size, holding the coin in hand, you can really appreciate the luster and the rainbow album toning, but you don't start counting dentils!

Second, I totally agree that small coins are best appreciated on a computer screen and that's why good imaging is so important now in this hobby.
The more I see your 1792 half disme the more I am impressed. Can't wait to ANA to see in in person. Again thanks for sharing.
