Fenway Park Infield Dirt . . .

As a teacher, I solicit junk from all NCAA and college sports teams. You know, to give away as incentives.

The Red Sox sent a packet of infield dirt along with some postcards and posters.

No way I'm giving this to six graders. It would wind up in someone's hair, or something.

Any ideas regarding what I should do with this????

Two years ago they were selling chunks of "championship sod" that they ripped up from the field after the 2004 season. If you bought that grass you can sprinkle some dirt on it now.

You could give it to Topps so they could make some type of insert card with it.image

I've got some dirt from Wrigley. You can either buy it in a coin or by the jar.

I have dirt from PNC, RFK and Oriole Park.

They are sitting on a shelf in my sports room in vials.

At work three years ago we had the pleasure of playing a softball game IN fenway park, it was pretty darn cool. They set up home plate at second base and we played in the outfield. The best part was hitting a softball off the Monster. KaThunk! While we were playing they were doing tours, so it was almost like there were fans watching us lol. The outfield grass was very soft. Several of my co-workers stole dirt from the infield and took it home with them. (they planned ahead and brought tupperware!)

one of the prizes you can choose in the $10 Red Sox Mass lottery scratch ticket(if you get the Prize pack) is a set of 9 gold plated coins and one of them has some infield dirt in it.
Got mine last week. It's put out by Highland Mint.

    Here's the dirt

Do you send letters or emails to teams? I am about to be a PE/Health teacher and wondered about getting some stuff from teams like that. What kind of stuff do they send?

I send a form letter. Changing team names, of course. Make sure you use school letterhead, so they don't think you're some chump looking for a handout. Tell them you're going to use the goods for incentives in your classroom (gym).

Geez, I've had teams send T-shirts, hats, autographs, posters, stickers, bobbleheads, unsold game programs, media guides, trading cards, key chains, etc. . . . INFIELD DIRT! You name it. Gotten some really weird stuff, too.

Other teachers make fun of me, but they are the first in line when goodies arrive from their alma mater. Funny how that works. It's cool to get big envelopes/boxes of free stuff.

Ebay all the cool stuff for weekend beer money. Only joking. Kind of.

After seeing the picture, I'd mail it to Edgar Renteria along with a letter of apology. The infield dirt really is bumpy. Sorry about that E-dgar.
