ASE set's seem to be levelling off

  • Sure, it pulls back, but it does not act like a Stock because:

1.) Quite doubtful one can short these coins, i.e. barrow coins now from someone, sell them and hope to replace the barrowed coins with coins purchased at a lower price. Especially when the barrowed coins can be called back by the owner.

2.) There are no phantom coins like phantom stock. Lots of shorting in the stock market takes place with shares that do not exsist. It is hideous and marginally regulated, and wide-spread off shore, like in the Berst Stock Market in Germany, owned by NASDAQ which shorts non-exsistant shares all the time.

3.) This pull back will 'bleed' out as there are only 250K Units to be had verses Millions of Silver collectors in the base. The 2006 Mintage is what it is.

I'm buying pockets of weakness. This week of the 4th of July to the end of the month is ALWAYS the slowest time of the year. People who have to sell, sell. Buyers are on vacation, this supply is larger than demand. (It always falls back to this, Supply/Demand, doesn't it?)

The window for these cheap coins pulling back will be brief.

If the 36K 1995 W going for $5K is any indication, $800-1,000 a set is not an unreasonabile expectation in 6-12 months no matter what happens in the stock market or the coin market.

At a local show this weekend, a dealer had a bunch of NGC 69 and 70 in multi holders, was asking $750 for the 69s. As far as I saw, none of them sold.

  • Opps, I might be off on that 6-12 Month 2006 P valuation buy $4-5K or so,......!

    Nice find there, PF!

  • Hmmm.... I wonder what is more appealing, a 3-coin multi-holder or three seperate, but sequential Coins in three holders, or 3 cobbled-together holers of these 3 Coins?

May be I will do a Poll

Don't look now, but the Plat "W"s are struggling a bit now, although the fractional Gold "W"s seem to be advancing a little. For the Plats - this is their first lull and undoubtedly, they needed some consolidation.

  • There are a few guys that just insist on selling it, now.

I saw ericj96 just get a fantastic buy on a $100 MS69 First Strike, last night.
  • The PCGS price guide has the '06-W increasing from 140 to 200 without differentiating between the labels, so perhaps the sets will start another climb.

Agree. All it takes is for a major retail company like QVC or HSN to run a promotion before Christmas.

  • Jeez Jim, then why'd you just list one on a no reserve?
  • I'm glad I sold all of mine with the exception of one raw set a couple of weeks ago. I sold at the recent peak.

Sell this one right now for $565 includes shipping!

    Last one I have!

I sold all my opened sets but still have a bunch of graded sets and 2 unopened from the mint. The correction was long overdue . Now we wait for the real leveling off this winter.

the big boys are only resting.

too much, too quick. Cant get a big position when you are chasing these up $200 a set in 3 weeks. Settle the market down and buy at a reduced price.

The big season for these is right around the corner. Use this time to accumulate.

remember , only weak hands run for cover.

none of the big positions have moved anything.

scare out some more sets and acquire. it's a closely followed principle the big boys use quite frequently.
  • Is it just me or do the above two posts sound just like one of those adverts to buy pink sheet stocks before they really take off !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've got quite a few (graded and ungraded) and I'm not even closely tempted to even sell one set. I heard rumors of these taking off again around Christmas and I'm no hurry to get out just yet. In fact if I see any deals on Ebay I may buy more.

If yer in at issue price or issue price plus submission fees yer settin purty; if you were silly enough to shell out $8500 for an unopened box of 10, then you mite start hopin that its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. If I was into em at $850 a pop I think I'd be prayin that 200,000 sets form milk spots.image

After they level off, could they start dropping?

  • I think that's what everyone means by leveling off - they did start dropping about a month or two ago. The opened sets were selling for around $550 - $600, but are now going for an average of $450 (my obsevations), but they've been there for a few weeks now.

  • I have been tracking availability versus price on these since January. In May the available items on Ebay under the search term "20th Anniversary Silver Eagle" dropped from high 375-450 items to a low of 240. Sets prices then rose rapidly to over $600.00 for 69 sets. When sets started getting over $600.00 the available items rose to high 400's. The price then dropped.

Simple supply and demand. I sold 2 sets at $600.00. It will take some time for these to be absorbed into the collector market and once they do and availability is limited these will climb again.

I am not at all concerned with where the prices are right now as they are going to start rising as the winter comes around.

thanks was looking for someone who had studied this trend and to note that this as well as summer lulls will hopefully "flip" back come fall.

Totally agree. The uniqueness of the RP and the low mintage of the "w" makes this a lock. (and the 20th Anniversary plastic doesn't hurt). I can't even guess what they will be at when the 30th Anniversary set comes out.
