ANA members: remember to VOTE

JulianJulian Posts: 3,370 ✭✭✭
The deadline for receipt of the ballots in CS is 7/19.

If you have not already voted and have your ballot laying around on your desk, fish it out, execute your right to vote in this year's election and send in your ballot NOW.

Julian-- thanks for the reminder. This is a very important election, and one which will have significant impact on the future of the ANA. If the old guard gets swept back into office (or if some top tier candidates are removed from office on a technicality), I predict a mass resignation by ANA members, causing irreparable damage to the ANA's ability to function going forward.

It took Russ 29 minutes to complete his ballot.

He must have read all those bylaw changes as well! image

I have voted but my ANA membership will have expired by the deadline. Will my vote still count? I am waiting for the results before deciding whether or not to renew. When will we find out the results of the election?

Where is the Official Longacre who we should vote for on the ANA ballot thread?
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Thanks for posting a reminder, Julian. It is a very important election this year and I truly hope (wish) that maybe 50% of the membership, about 15,000 actually vote. That would be almost double of past elections. The more people who vote, the more meaningful the results will be. Send your ballot in TODAY if you have not already done so. They MUST receive it by Thursday, July 19th. The announcement on results is scheduled for July 29th, but they can announce it anytime during the week of July 23rd. Steveimage

Just as long as those who are deceased aren't voting (which is the case in Chicago!) image

I already sent mine in, and also the bylaws changes, which I gave it thumbs down big time (and put in my two cents worth), plus I placed a Darth Vader stamp on it (since he reminds me so much of Cipoletti!) image

By all means, yes, please do vote. If you received a ballot, use it and vote. If you have not received a ballot yet, contact the auditors by phone tomorrow and have them send you a ballot, and send it back to be received by July 19. Do not let this opportunity to alter the future of the American Numismatic Association pass you by.

Hopefully what happened to me will not also happen to you. A few months ago I pondered whether or not membership in an organization with such controversy was really worth it, so I allowed my 8 year membership to lapse. Later, after a month or two, I was convinced to renew my membership strictly for the opportunity to vote and effect some much needed changes in the organization. I renewed my membership, and received my membership card a couple of months ago. I had not received my ballot as of Monday so I called the auditor's office in Colorado Springs, gave them my membership number, and asked for a ballot. They took my information and said they would get back to me. A few hours later a representative from the ANA called me and informed me that since I had allowed my membership to lapse for a few months during the calendar year 2007 (while I considered whether or not the membership fee was worth the hassle) I would not be allowed to vote. She rather coyly stated "There will be no ballot for you". So despite my decision to renew, I will not be allowed to vote.

My advice to any and all 'eligible' voting members is to vote early and vote often. Please take this opportunity to make the ANA the organization that you would like it to be. And if you are undecided about who to vote for, just take Longacre's slate of candidates and vote for them. That is what I would have done.

    Stephen,
I'm sorry to hear that the ANA won't let you vote. It is an example of the problems with the current leadership. Deny a vote on a technicallity. Why? Was there a good purpose in this? Just following the official bylaws they would say. Maybe that is why we can't grow membership in our organization. Hopefully, with new leadership, these kind of things won't happen in the future.

I've have told her "Thank you. You have convinced me not to renew my membership once it expires."
