Okay. I watched Field of Dreams for the billionth time tonight. I didn't realize that Archie "Moonlight" Graham was a real player. Just thought it was cool.
Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.
Moonlight-"No one's called me Moonlight in fifty years."
Ray-"Fifty years ago, for five minutes you came within... y-you came this close. It would KILL some men to get so close to their dream and not touch it. God, they'd consider it a tragedy.
Moonlight-"Son if I'd only gotten to be a doctor for five minutes...now that would have been a tragedy."
Maybe I was loaded the last time I saw this movie but I swear it was Curley Lambeau talke to Vince Lombardi
Vince, people will come Vince. They'll come to Green Bay for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past, just like everyone in Green Bay. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only a donation per person and pass a hat. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and beer they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in snowmobile suits on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the 50, where they sat when they were children at some other sub standard venue, and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The weather will be so cold and their smiles will be frozen and will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Vince. The one constant through all the years, Vince, has been football. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But football has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Vince. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Vince. That was the interesting thing I found about Moonlight's bio. He died in 1965 but the setting was something like 1973 when they found him. The Godfather was on the billboard. I wonder why they didn't make the setting the early 1960s?
If they had based the movie in the early sixties, than you would not have had the great standoff with James Earl Jones and Kevin Costner.
Terrance-"Oh my god " Ray-"What" Terrance-"You're from the sixties" Ray-"Well, yeah, actually... Terrance-"Out! Back to the sixties!Back! Theres no place for you here in the future! Get back while you can!"

Moonlight Graham played on the 1905 Giants with Frank Bowerman.
Bowerman is a central character in my new book, "The Marinolli Treasure", because his card appears right next to Honus Wagner's on the T206 strip that was auctioned recently and was originally part of Wagner's estate.
I just found it funny that I had no idea who Bowerman was when I was researching my book... but I knew who his 1905 teammate was in spite of the teammate only playing in ONE major league game!!
