Updated 7/6/07: Got me a 34-D buff and a 77 Trade off ebay tonight

Not the greatest strike on this one, but most 34-D's are weak. This one appears to have no eye sores and the horn is clearly full which is the ultimate goal for all of my non-S mint buffs. The grade (NGC MS63) has the best price point to me for a coin destined for my dansco. I've been looking for (in vain) a hammered AU58.

This one goes into my 7070 set. It was fairly priced and has a look I like.

Thanks for looking,

  • I like the coin and the grade...I had a PCGS 63 in an OGH that looked similar!

That 34-D has nice surfaces and appears to be correctly graded. It is not real strongly struck even for 34-D, and you can find a more detailed central obverse with some patience. But on the whole, it appears to be a very sound purchase.image

Yep. It's raw. Do you see something wrong with it, other than it's raw?

I've read that the majority of raw trade dollars on ebay are counterfeits (upwards from 70-90% depending on who you ask), but personally I haven't been able to distinguish the difference on way or the other; yet. Once I am 100% ready to purchase a trade dollar, part of me wants to try to find a raw one on EBay since all of the counterfeit ones are causing the real ones to devalue.

If this is information you already know, then I apologize! If not, then you should read some of the guides on EBay's website. This one is probably the best. If you are unsure, hopefully your seller offers a return policy. This would give you some time to weigh and measure the coin. I hope everything goes as planned!

I wasnt aware that the counterfit rate was that high. There is a return privilege and I'll have little trouble telling if it's real or not. At worst, I lose return postage. Thanks for the info. I'll try to remember to update this post and send you a PM once it comes in to give everyone an update.

Update: Trade dollar is countfit. Oh well, the coin goes back and the search continues.
