1856 F.E. Cent- holed Best guess as to value?

VeepVeep Posts: 1,516 ✭✭✭✭
I saw one today in private hands that may be for sale. The coin is in Good with a hole through the "ES" of STATES. There's an XF, holed through the date on ebay right now at $2k with a few days to go. I'll be watching that one. Anyone else have knowledge of the selling price of a holed '56? THANKS!

A '56 flyer Holed in G. I'm thinking it should fetch a 1 or 2 price from Heritage's website after net grading. I'm guessing the hole is a nice size and round...appealing.

    PO-01 $1050-1250
    PO-02 $2050-2550

Check Teletrade and Heritage web site. They each have an auction prices realized site were you can find similar coins.

Yeah, I didn't see anything comparable on Heritage. There was G4 repaired, corroded that sold in July 2002 for $3,600 but that was the closest. I was guessing between $1,000 and $1,500 for this one.

    If it is holed, pass.

Are you sure it's really a '56 and not an altered '58?

I agree with ziggy, be very very careful. I have held some very deceptive alterations.

Yep, I'm positive that its a'56. The back, upright part of the "5" if extended splits the ball of the "5". The ball has a notch in the top, right portion. The inside of the "O" in "OF" is rectangluar in shape. There has been no alteration of the "6".

the xf with the hole thru the date would be a big no for me.

the other one i'd probably pass on and save up for for a less problematic example. might be worth $1k or a bit more, but not to me.
