WOW, Russ. Did you have to put my '69 to shame or what? That thing looks ice cold! Is it yours? Whats the grade?
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
It's funny. It's one of my very favorites because it is the moosiest DCAM I've ever found, but it's also the lowest value in my stash. It's graded PR67DCAM because of some hairlines in the fields.

That is funny Russ. My '69 posted above is a PR68DCAM and technically worth more than the monster you and Lee posted. PCGS says its worth $30. I will send you a check for $35.00. Do we have a deal?image
  • jmj3esqjmj3esq Posts: 5,421
WOW Dheath, that is an amazing 1971-S. Probably the nicest I have ever seen.

Lee, I know how you feel. This beauty graded MS64CAM. I thought it had a shot a DCAM. I think they are nuts. I cracked it out of that POS slab within minutes of its return:

Man, there are some gorgeous Kennedys here. image I can feel my fingers and toes getting cold from all the frost.

Coin values and registry points depending on cameo grade are interesting concepts. My 1938 PR66CAMEO Walker is worth less registry points than a 1938 PR67 Walker. I suspect that if people were given a choice between either my coin or a top notch brilliant PR67 (or for that matter a PR68) essentially 100% would choose the cameo.

Personally I'd rather get a coin with a heavier contrast than a 1 point technically higher graded coin with lesser contrast any day of the week.

I have to agree, Russ, as soon as I saw your 1969-S I thought to myself "Holy #$%&!!!". That is one heck of a coin.

Geeze, enough with the Frosty Hairyhead coins already. While they are quite pretty and frosty, why do you guys keep posting Hairyhead coins (which can hardly be called "circulating" legal tender for various reasons we all know).

Come on, post some pics of some Cameo or Deep Cameo proof silver half dollars of the kind that actually were "circulating" legal tender. You know, Cameo and Deep Cameo examples of Frankies, Walkers, Barbers and Seated Liberty silver proof half dollars.

Now thems be some mighty fine and purdy coins.image
