Before and After

Just bought my first 5 oz. jar of ezest the other day and tried it out today. I tried it on 2 silver halves and a clad quarter. Here are the results for the quarter. I have to say it looked nicer before than after image. It looks very dead now. But hey, it's just my first try. You might say I was trying to kill it, seeing as how I left it in the ezest for 5 minutes image. It's just worth face anyways, so no real harm done image. I have to find out the strength of the stuff and the length for the dip before trying it on anything else. image

P.S: You don't have to worry about me selling dipped morgans on ebay. Ain't gonna happen. What I'm doing is merely experimentation. image

From a process standpoint, I'd switch the first water around with the baking soda, and then add another water on the back end. But then, that's just me. I've already had enough unresolved debate for the day. image

    What is the goal here?image
  • I don't think dipping the coin in a bowl of water is going to be nearly enough of a rinse. Hold it under running water. The longer the better.

This was done for all three coins after the dip in the water.

BTW I did the halves first and I didn't take any before pics. image They turned out pretty good though. I didn't leave them in nearly as long. image

Many coins are and should only be dipped for a few seconds....
Grab some scrap 64 Kennedy's and try dipping one for 5 seconds, then 1 for 7 seconds, then one for 10 seconds etc to see the results. You can usually keep most of the original luster if only dipping for a few seconds. Remember that the clock is still ticking until the rinse begins, so if you remove the coin from the dip and hold it there for 3 seconds to let that big drip fall back you have to add that 3 seconds to the total dip time.
Then grab some more scrap 64 Kennedy's (notice a pattern here....) and cut (dilute) the dip by 25% then 50% then 75% and see the different results.
Do this all before you dip something that matters to you.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
