Flight tomorrow, recommended reading

blu62vetteblu62vette Posts: 11,943 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have a long flight and a long layover tomorrow. I am mainly a Morgan collector so if you had to run to a store tonight and get some reading could you recommend anything? I assume most magazines may not be a great read but could kill some time so what would you pick up at a Borders or Barnes and Noble for a flight?

Thanks

Have you read the Whitman book on Morgans? Or the Crime of '73?

The Whitman book is good. A new version is in the works, but this should hold you over for a plane ride and stop-over. It is probably the most in-depth Morgan book you will find in a retail store too.

Do you have the QDB book on Morgans? Any of his books would be good for the flights. I really like his Investing Guide and that should keep you busy for a while. They should be available at both Borders and B&N.

Tales from the Bourse by David Feigenbaum, available at DLRC for a mere five bucks. It's a relatively short book but absolutely entertaining for anyone involved in the hobby. I highly recommend it.

If you have a nosy person seated next to you, open up your laptop and hit this link:

They should leave you alone after that...

  • Any books from Clive Cussler's "Dirk Pitt" series. That should keep you entertained. Have a good flight.

Hey Longacre, you really scored on that hot fudge sundea! Ever wonder what could have happened if you said one sold recently for over $100,000?

    Oh, that's good. image

This was a question that should have been asked one week ago, time enough to prepare. Now, you are at the mercy of whatever is at your local bookstore. image

I would recommend either Illegal Tender (David Tripp) or Double Eagle (Allison Frankel), both books about the 1933 Saint, but excellent overviews of US numismatics of the 20th century. I would give the edge to the Frankel book, but both are perfect for travel and should be available at a Borders or B&N.

I was going to recommend either of those 2 books on the 1933 Double Eagle as well.

Thanks for the help. I know I should have started looking earlier but I found a couple at borders and will look for the rest so I dont run into this situation again. I need to start some coin reading so this was good info regardless of timing!

Anyone know when the Third Edition will be available?

  • Can't you forget coins while you're on the plane? I recommend "Mason & Dixon" by Thomas Pynchon. Naval battles, navel battles, a talking dog, a supersonic duck, dope-smoking dead presidents, and a zenith sector, all for a couple of English shillings - what could be better?
Salute the automobile: The greatest anti-pollution device in human history!
(Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)
  • Make it a short book, that's no more than 4 hrs. in the air.
