Did the numismatic world NEED a Summer FUN?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I am all for the coin shows, however, there comes a time when less is more. The Summer FUN show is coming up soon. I have not checked, but this may be the first year that it is offered (or it might be the second year; I am not sure).

Does anyone think that the coin circuit needed this show? The Orlando area in the summer is not exactly the place that people generally want to be (except for Universal Studios), so I was wondering if we truly needed this additional coin show. I received the Heritage catalog for this show, and although the catalog was nice, I did not get too excited with the offerings. Would the numismatic world have continued on without a Summer FUN show?

I can only speak for myself on this issue, but when I read about the summer FUN show I immediately dismissed the potential of myself being in attendance.

the show is not in the Orlando area...it will be in the Palm Beach area. Whether or not the rest of you need such a show matters not to me, for my brother lives there and he and I will go to the show. I'm looking forward to it.

I predict a dead show. In the seasonally slow summer, sandwiched between the Summer Baltimore and the ANA, on the heels of a painfully, brutally slow Mid-America show in Chicago, I cannot imagine anything but a slow show. For the sake of those participating, I hope that I am wrong. It might, in fact, be a good buying opportunity for the few collectors who attend, as dealers may want to lighten up on inventory prior to the ANA. Every cloud has a silver lining. image

    Yes,

there is are so few good shows in driving distance in South Flroida, basically Orlando.

I have spoke to many people planning to go, myself included.

It seems like the amount of quality material is already stretched pretty thin. I'm guessing that there isn't a great deal of quality merchandise to purchase at the show. I hope the show at least has a decent turnout.

We signed up when 1st announced as we always like to support F.U.N.

I may be wrong but I think the idea was to take over the previous West Palm Beach show which had the makings of a great show but with some bad luck ie Hurricane ... went out...

People talk about the heat in Florida in the summer.... but since we are in an airconditioned building all day anyway it doesnt really matter....as far as how good the show is we will find out..... West Palm Beach has a great airport, and great convention center.... so we will give it a try

There is no need for any coin show, but if the market is still strong then more shows get scheduled without regard to quantity. Surprisingly many more dealers than at first expected are planning to attend this coming summer FUN show.

For the record, the summer FUN show is going to be held in West Palm Beach, not Orlando.
