still unanswered question

I asked this question about two months ago, and never got a definitive answer.

Those hot 2006 w statue of liberty $100 platinum eagles shot up to $4000 in MS70 in abouth three months.
Now, they have calmed down a lot, but you can't determine their value because they have been dropped from the Platinum Eagle section of the PCGS Price Guide. The still unanswered question is WHY did they fall off the Price Guide? Does this happen periodically? Who decides what coin 'disappears'?

The most recent sale was $3,500.00 and there was but a single bidder, down from the trend average of a bit over $3,700. Most of these have probably found semi-permanent homes by now, so they will be harder to track.

Who knows why they've been dropped from the price guide? Good question, tho.

There used to be a 2006 w Statue of Liberty $100 First Strike designation (like the proofs) as well. This is the one that is gone.

Maybe there weren't enough sales reported to include it.

Is it possible that it will gain some interest again when the 2007s go on sale? image
I'd keep playing. I don't think the heavy stuff will be coming down for quite a while!

Maybe it's a phase-out and maybe it's PCGS's way of saying that there is no price differential between the labels. Actually, when I think about it, weren't all of them labelled as "First Strike?" I do believe that they were.

Is it possible that it will gain some interest again when the 2007s go on sale?

By "it" do you mean the "First Strike" designation, or the 1 oz. 2006 "W" Unc Plat?

If you meant the "First Strike" label, the chances that this label will remain a factor is dwindling (and should dwindle) because the term is being used as an advertising brand name, rather than having anything to do with the condition of the dies that produced the actual coins.

If you meant the 1 oz. 2006 "W" Unc Plats themselves, I don't think that the 2007 "W"s will have much bearing on the amount of interest being shown in the 2006 "W"s, unless there are fewer 1 oz. 2007 "W"s made. Either way, the 1 oz. 2006 "W" should be a key to the series.

I am humbled by your superior knowledge of the twists and turns of the coin market. There was a separate listing for First Strike and when the price started decreasing, the listing was gone. Does removing them from the listing alter the averaging process when they compute the coin market indices? I am always surprised at my stupidity when I foolishly trust an authority. Galileo said,"The Authorities are not interested in the Truth, merely in authority."
