    I just opened a box a few days ago and you're pretty much gonna get the same pack pver and over with a few variations. Also, the stripe cards were on the top of the top pack in each section. It's like they didn't even try.

    lee, you are right on. i've got 4 packs left and i doubt if i have half of a set completed out of an entire box.

    Thanks,

    lee,
    half of the cards in the packs are at least 1/8" if not 1/4" shorter than the others. did you have the same scenario?

    Thanks,

    Yeah, but you have half the set complete 8 times. Any decent stripes? I got a 50 of a common.

    The whole box was wierd all wround. Short cards, same pack repeating, 3 of same card in a pack....... No wonder they never really took off like they should've because their concept was pretty innovative I thought.

    here are the stripes i pulled:

    20 - al toon
    10 - tim harris
    5 - willie anderson
    10 - jim everett
    5 - marion butts.

    and the guy i bought the box from thru in about 15+ stripe cards of commons.

    yeah, i pulled triples in some packs as well...todd marinovich and the checklists come to mind... i did pull 2 emmitts in 2 separate packs. i'll count up some of my dupes later.

    Thanks,

    I was actually ahead of the curve with Wild Card. When everybody was sending in their 100 and 1000 stripes for hundreds of singles, I used to bust boxes and boxes, then trade in hundreds of the same card for stripe cards. I knew the money would be in the stripe cards.

    The whole concept of being able to trade for singles or stripes, and trading in the surprise cards really got people involved. If their product and execution was only as good as their concept.....

    I was surprised to see not a single 1991 football wildcard (base or stripe) registered with eBay. For such a small set, I figured someone would take the time to send these cards in. I think it'd be tough to build in high grade. Especially if you wanted to build it all in a particular stripe.

    Separate "Wild" and "Card". You will find some eBay listings. If nothing else, there are usually 20 or so Brett Favre cards from the Collegiate Draft version of this product.

    I agree that it is a tough set. The bad paper stock, along with the black borders on the front, and purple borders on the reverse make it particularily tough to get in high grade.

    I also agree that the coalation on this set is junk. If you get the card you are looking for, you will get a ton of them. I cracked 2 cases of Collegiate Draft, 20 boxes worth. 17 of the boxes didn't have a base Favre at all. Out of the other 3 boxes, I think I pulled about 30 Favres, including 17 from one box.

    Could someone explain to me how this set worked exactly? Like, are the higher numbers or lower numbers rarer? And what consitutes a complete set (realistically)?

  • The Wild Card sets were around 250 cards(I think) in the base set. Every card had a stripe version in 5,10,20,50,100,500,1000.

    The thing was you could send in a 5 stripe and get 5 of those cards or you could send in 5 of those cards and get a 5 stripe card and so on.

    A 500 and 1000 stripe set I would think is near impossible to complete, although I know a dealer who sent in 500 sets and got a 500 stripe set. I think he broke it up and sold it individually.

    Meant to add I remember us getting a case of the jumbo that were suppoused to contain one insert or stripe card that were badly miscollated. You got all inserts and one base card that was where I pulled my Sanders 1000 stripe. Sold it a few weeks later for 300.00.

    According to the Beckett Annual, 100 stripes have a 25X multiplier associated with them. The 1991 Wild Card 160 card set books for a meager $6.00, putting the 100 stripe set at $150.00. I doubt you could give away the base set, but imagine you might do surprisingly well on the 100 stripe set if the right buyer comes across it. There is quite a few people still chasing these stiped sets.

    Would you mind posting the multipliers for the different stripes, 10, 25, 1000, etc?

    Sure thing. For the 1991 Wild Card set they are as follows:

    5 = 2.5X
    10 = 3.5X
    20 = 5X
    50 = 10X
    100 (Veterans) = 25X
    100 (Rookies) = 20X
    1000 (Veterans & Rookies) = 80X

    I was trying to think as if Wild Card was the first "major" brand to implement parallels or not. I cannot think of anyone who had them previously... am I forgetting someone?

    Snorto~
  • I think they were, I cannot think of any before them. Topps Stadium introduced the First Day in 1992 or 93 and Pinnacle had the APs and Museum collections I think though they came out in 1993.
  • I was not aware of any 500 Stripe card in this set. I am not sure about the NFL set, as I have only ever dealt with the Collegiate set.
    I actually like this set, as odd as that may sound. I have often considered attempting a PSA 10 set of the base cards. Of course, like everything else I start, I never follow through on that stuff.

    At any rate, I thought I would share my "set" of 1991 Wild Card Favres. As my sig line says, I am looking for 5, 50, and 100 upgrades.

  • It might have been a 100 stripe set not a 500. I have slept since then, discovered the bottle, fought off the bottle since then.
