Click Email Support
Click Report a Listing Violation
Fill out a form
Click Continue
Read the relevant policy
Click the very small, and hard to find, Email Us link
Type in the item number

Does anyone else think it's retarded to have to go through these steps in order to to eBay's job for them?!

Never had to report a violation...does seem like a rediculous amount of steps designed to discourage.

I've always found just communicating with eBay - for help or anything - to be frustrating.

Yes, that's one way... I find it easier to simply click the link at the bottom of each auction:

Click Report This Item
Click a topic
Click a sub-topic
(Some sub-topics have a further sub-topic to pick)
Click continue

These steps are just to discourage the honest folks ..No wonder the stock is down to $$31..My ebay purchases are down 50-75 % from the last couple years

Ebay and PayPal have taken the "revenue at any cost" approach. I reported a NPB that made threats of physical harm against us and he registered a new ID and again has bid on our auctions and is not paying. Ebay's response? Don't care. They got their listing fees. Also, I've received immediate PayPal payments from buyers recently without a confirmed address even though the appropriate box is checked to refuse those payments. All PP does is give you a message that there is no seller's protection if you ship the item. The Blackthorne software they lease out to volume sellers is so riddled with problems that it's nearly unusable. Check out their private forums for users.. It's so bad that it won't even open properly and it goes downhill from there.

Time for something else...

It's a pain to go through the process of reporting a problem auction to ebay, as there are many steps. My solution was to simply bookmark the final page where you submit the auction numbers of the problem auctions. Now, reporting an auction is only a click away!

Nah. I report an item maybe once a year if it's something really egregious. My feeling is: if I can't do it, why should they? It's kinda like standing in line and having someone jump in front of you.

In this particular case, some dude is selling a sheet of 32 $2 bills for face value--but with a $43 shipping charge.

On top of that hastle none of the sub topics often fit. Let's say you see a counterfeit coin:

first 4 choices:

1)Item Not Received - You didn't receive your item, or you received an item that was different than described.
2)Unpaid Item - You didn't receive payment for an item you sold on eBay.
3)Spoof (fake) email - You received a suspicious-looking email that appears to be from eBay or PayPal and you want eBay to take action.
4)Report another problem - Get help with other eBay transaction problems or safety concerns.

So you pick #4 and get 8 more choices:

Listing Violations
1)Report a listing violation or prohibited (banned) item
2)Buying and Finding Ask about searching, bidding, paying for an item, or dispute resolution
3)Account Security Report fake eBay emails, unauthorized account activity, or other safety concerns
4)My Account, Registration, and Password
Ask about My eBay or changing your contact information
5)Selling and Managing Your Item
Ask about photos, fees, tools, Stores, unpaid items, or problems with a buyer
6)Suspension
Ask about a suspended account, notices you've received from eBay, or sign-in problems
7)Feedback
Ask about eBay's Feedback system, or about feedback you've left or received
8)View and Report Site Issues
Examples include error messages, functionality that is not working, and pages that do not display. Please choose another topic to report policy violations or specific issues with your eBay account.

So the closest thing is #1 then you get 7 choices:
1)Copying your listing
2)Counterfeits and copyright violations
3)Prohibited or banned items
4)Listing policy violations keywords, links, excessive shipping
5)Ebay motors related issues
6)Fraudulent listings illegal seller demands or did not deliver item
7)stolen property

So you pick #2 and get 8 more choices:
1)Potential trademark infringement
2)Beetleg or counterfeit media
3)Mod chips game enhancers boot chips
4)Enabling duplication copy protected materials
5)Item description that encourages infringement
6)other potential infringement
7)Ebay item infringes your IP rights
8)Fraudulent listings

So you pick 8 and get one choice:
1)You RECIEVED a counterfeit item

SO YOU CAN NOT REPORT THE COUNTERFEIT AS A COUNTERFEIT UNLESS YOU BUY IT AND GET IT!!!

The only way to report it by item number is pick "prohibited or banned item" then "other prohibited banned item" then "other prohibited items" then you can enter the item number but no other info so they will think it's banned but it's not listed as banned (just says it's a coin in the listing BUT you know it is counterfeit) so they think "nothing wrong with that item and leave it listed.

This is why most items are allowed to complete and they get their cut of your money. They don't easily let you report counterfeit coins pre-emptively.

So I think feebay gets the "WE JUST WANT YOUR MONEY AND DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AWARD"

I know what you are saying. I once bought some 1979-P SBA and the listing said I know you will find some wide rims in this bag, I did not so I e-mailed him and got a neg. The only one in 6 years he even e-mailed me to see if I would remove his and he will do the same for me and I said no.I'll keep it just so he cant do this to some one that may bid on his auctions.So I know what you are saying.I just hade to pull your string.

HOHOHO!!!!! it ain't Even Christmas......you'al think ebay is on the JOB when a problem comes up ..last year when the 20th Anniv gold were all over the auctions, I reported several times to the great god ....Ebay , that, there were phony 1/2 price auctions for the gold coins..you guessed all I got was a wishy washy reply from ebay and the auctions were being still listed..

Just incredible how difficult they make it to report the bad guys. I, too, ran down all the choices and dead ended with either
1. I had RECEIVED a counterfeit item

or

2. I wanted to report counterfeit MEDIA.

Ebay is kinda like the old west. For the most part, it's buyer (and seller) beware.
What it comes down to, is the more policing they do, the more the auction fees have to be. It costs money to police the auctions. When eBay started, it was supposed to be self policing with the feedback system as your guide. Not like shopping at a store, with return and complaint departments.
Maybe they could have a buyers fee, to discourage NPBs.

Really? Wait until the buyer responds with wanting to complete the sale but doesn't pay. You lose your FVF in addition to the listing fee.

I really only worry about things that really happen, not every little hypothetical I can think of. Paranoi can be a deadly disease if you let it get to you.

Happens constantly. I have 17 NPB for June and 4 of those have figured out how to check a box and avoid a non-payment strike and cost me the FVF.

There are some playas on eBay that expend a great deal of their time learning how to be underhanded in their dealings and eBay is the enabler.

You're right--if it was eBay doing the policing. But when their own members are willing to do the policing, it's virtually free. Yet they make it as difficult as possible to do. Why? Because they don't care. Why should they care? The online auction biz is a natural monopoly.

Proof that Ebay doesn't care.
