Forgive my intrusion with this coin picture

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,790 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sorry to take away from the scintilating (sic) threads lately, but I just got my new, replacement, camera and wanted to try it out.
2 OTT lights in not a very good space. Camera in macro mode. Cropped and "auto-adjusted" by Microsoft Image Manager. Nothing else done.

I kind of like the picture....good details.

Camera has the swivel lens (Nikon Coolpix S10), is 6MP, and came from Costco.com for $220+tax+shipping w/ a 2GB SD card.
Maybe not as sweet at the DSLRs, but I didn't want to spend that much and get all the lenses.

OTT Lights? Great photo. If I could take photos like that I would not even think about the SLR digital. What's your secret???

    Thanks guys.

Settings? Ummm....literally, I used Macro, turned off the flash, and set timer to 3 seconds.
Oh yeah, I also use a $8 tiny camera tripod/stand that I got at staples last year.....was too weak for my old Nikon 5400 but the S10 is fine with it.

Gotta use a copystand or tripod to negate movement (even though this camera comes with VR, I don't use it since I have the stand).

    Myqqy,

Depending on what else you want the camera for, and your budget, take a look at the Coolpix S10 from Costco....it's onsale this month (I think it ends early July....~$60 off right now)...esp if you are a member.

The DSLRs are nice too...but none come with a macro lens for coins....they have an "ok" one that can be used, but you need to shell out ~$200-$400+ for a good macro lens...and the DSLRs are ~$600+.

Can't wait to see some of your pics image

Bochi, I'd say that for the first time with a new camera, the photo is, uh - stupendous. What came with the camera, and what lenses & accessories didn't you get? Christmas is coming.image

I believe the photo was taken indoors without flash.

Indoor light hasmore red in its color spectrum than outdoor "natural" light.

    Very Excellent!

That might be the camera for me. Can't wait to see a photo of a Lincoln. Any Chance?

    Thanks again guys.

Camera: Nikon Coolpix S10 Bought from Costco.com here
Lens is what it comes with. Not a DSLR. Just put it into Macro mode. Camera has a "swivel" lens...part of the coolpix 885/995 family like Russ, and others, use.

Light was 2 OTT light last night.

It is toned for a 2005....it was left sitting out in my closet for the last 18 months or so. Reverse isn't toned at all as it was sitting obverse up. No "extra" heat, no chemicals (whatever is in the air I breathe daily image ), and I would consider it NT. The really does look like this in person/in-hand. I have another one that has been doing the same thing but was in one of those cardboard holders (you know the ones...they have something like SAE or "Happy Birthday" on them) and that ones has some blue toning around the rim. Will take that pic later and post (getting ready to head over the mountains to get some cherries from my friend's orchard in Yakima and then float the river).

Nice image. Even though I just bought a DSLR, I still like the images my Nikon CoolPix 2100 takes in macro mode. I was using OTT lights as well. I ended up getting some 5000K fluorescents in bendy desk lamp mounts. Not sure which I like best.

Anyway, very nice OOBE with the camera you got. Good deal!

An excellent feature for coin imaging and one of the main reasons I first bought the Ricoh, and then the Coolpix 950.

    Nice pic Bochiman.
I just picked up a Nikon DSLR also, I use it because it takes GREAT pics, but kept and still use the Nikon 4200 in macro for coins. Can't beat these little point and shoot Nikon's in macro for coin photography on the cheap.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
