Forgive my intrusion with this coin picture
Sorry to take away from the scintilating (sic) threads lately, but I just got my new, replacement, camera and wanted to try it out.
2 OTT lights in not a very good space. Camera in macro mode. Cropped and "auto-adjusted" by Microsoft Image Manager. Nothing else done.
I kind of like the picture....good details.
Camera has the swivel lens (Nikon Coolpix S10), is 6MP, and came from Costco.com for $220+tax+shipping w/ a 2GB SD card.
Maybe not as sweet at the DSLRs, but I didn't want to spend that much and get all the lenses.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

<< <i>Great Phot0. That is the camera i have-- a Nikon coolpix S10. What settings did you use? I still stink at taking pictures. Thanks, Bob >>
Thanks guys.
Settings? Ummm....literally, I used Macro, turned off the flash, and set timer to 3 seconds.
Oh yeah, I also use a $8 tiny camera tripod/stand that I got at staples last year.....was too weak for my old Nikon 5400 but the S10 is fine with it.
Gotta use a copystand or tripod to negate movement (even though this camera comes with VR, I don't use it since I have the stand).

<< <i>Nice photo- I need to buy a new camera and setup soon, so I will take a look at the nikons... >>
Myqqy,
Depending on what else you want the camera for, and your budget, take a look at the Coolpix S10 from Costco....it's onsale this month (I think it ends early July....~$60 off right now)...esp if you are a member.
The DSLRs are nice too...but none come with a macro lens for coins....they have an "ok" one that can be used, but you need to shell out ~$200-$400+ for a good macro lens...and the DSLRs are ~$600+.
Can't wait to see some of your pics

Very Excellent!
That might be the camera for me. Can't wait to see a photo of a Lincoln. Any Chance?

Camera: Nikon Coolpix S10 Bought from Costco.com here
Lens is what it comes with. Not a DSLR. Just put it into Macro mode. Camera has a "swivel" lens...part of the coolpix 885/995 family like Russ, and others, use.
Light was 2 OTT light last night.
It is toned for a 2005....it was left sitting out in my closet for the last 18 months or so. Reverse isn't toned at all as it was sitting obverse up. No "extra" heat, no chemicals (whatever is in the air I breathe daily

Anyway, very nice OOBE with the camera you got. Good deal!

An excellent feature for coin imaging and one of the main reasons I first bought the Ricoh, and then the Coolpix 950.

I just picked up a Nikon DSLR also, I use it because it takes GREAT pics, but kept and still use the Nikon 4200 in macro for coins. Can't beat these little point and shoot Nikon's in macro for coin photography on the cheap.
