So who do you think will be the new official grading service of the ANA?

It's only been about six weeks since the ANA received all the proposals. I guess this is not the time to make an announcement. It seems obvious to me that NGC will get the official role for a number of years at a nice increase of revenue to ANA. I, of course, could be wrong, but after the elections, this revenue stream will be important. Anyone care to give their opinion on what will happen?

I wouldn't want to bet there isn't some politics that go into this decision. It IS about the MONEY for sure, but I think there are other factors at play also.

I wouldn't change my buying habits based on that endorsement. Are there really collectors out there that will only buy coins from the "official" TPG?

I think PCGS has figured this out - why "contribute" to the ANA when it doesn't mean anything to their revenue stream and profits. All they would get is "goodwill".

Am I missing something here?

I think PCGS is smart enough to realize that the ANA's endorsement isn't worth seeking. PCGS has its own high reputation in the marketplace and the lack of an ANA endorsement I don't think affects PCGS's reputation at all.

In my opinion, the ANA endorsing TPGs could be an important thing for the hobby, especially with all the self slabbers on ebay. But, because the ANA is looking for the highest bid in order for a company to be recognized as the "Official Grading Service of the ANA," the endorsement loses much of its weight in my eyes. I understand that the ANA needs ways to raise money, but I don't think this should be one of them. I think the ANA should do a service to the collecting community and recognize the grading companies that the hobby views as legitimate and top-tier.

Would that be just PCGS or NGC? Would it be the top four TPGs? I don't know those answers, but I think simply selling your name to the highest bidder is a poor move for something as important as grading and authentication in this hobby.

Just my two cents.......

If I remember correctly PCGS used to be the official service until NGC outbid them.

What I remember is that PCGS used to be the official grading service of the PNG. I do not remember them being the official service of the ANA. Right now NGC is the "official" service of both.

If money is what it is all about then I dont care who the "official " grading service is.
If the endorsement meant that the grading company was better in some way then I would care.
So I will continue to buy the coin....which more often than not in my case these days is in NGC plastic

At one point in the past, they also had the ANA endorsement.

Because the ANA endorsement is, apparently, simply to the highest bidder, it has no real value to the collecting community. It certainly won't effect my coin choices.

I don't have a clue who the new official grading service for the ANA will be, but whoever it is will end up in second or third place to PCGS, anyway

Wouldn't it be fun if ICG had the bucks to buy the designation..... It is likely, IMHO, that NGC will get the designation again, no harm done and a nice income stream for the ANA.

Were the ANA to attempt to award the designation based on grading performance, only lawyers would benefit..... Rob
