Wow - I'm really glad I already have an established Ebay record with 100% positive feedback - I'd hate to open an account and sell a 20th anniv NGC 70 silver eagle set with you lot around - regular bunch of inspector cluesos. I could picture it right now – muttering under my breath – I can’t sell anything because I have no feedback and I can’t get feedback because I can’t sell anything – and I may have sold these coins too if it weren’t for those pesky kids and that dog :-)

So you're saying you feel 100% safe/confident buying whats going to be an expensive coin off of this person even if they don't have a picture of the actual coin?
Nah, but I wasn't just referring to the coin picture specifically - although it could be a guy who doesn't have a camera, so I respect him more for not stealing someone else’s picture which he could have easily done. What I'm talking about it the fact that he's been "selected" because he only has a feedback of 1. Don’t get me wrong it's a good thing that Ebay fraudsters are exposed through this forum, but just don’t drag someone’s rep and auction through the mud just because he doesn't sell 100 coins a day. That all :-)
So you think he set up this account 6 years ago with the sole purpose of selling a single fake coin six years in the future. I would be more wary of the guy who has a feedback of 10 on a 2 month old account and built up his 100% feedback selling bubblegum wrappers and then listed a $4,000 coin. But that’s just me. Anyway, back to work…

With all due respect, I believe that you are missing the point. The point is that ebay is full of scammers, and this auction has several of the key earmarks:
1) The account was supposedly set up 6 years ago and then never used.
2) The seller has no reputation to be dragged through the mud - he hasn't established a rep.
3) He not only isn't selling 100 coins a day; he isn't even selling 1 coin per year.
4) Boom isn't saying that he set up the account 6 years ago - he is suggesting that the account may be stolen. In fact, the odds are quite good in that regard.
5) Bubblegum wrappers vs. no transactions at all? Hmmmmmm.............a hard choice, I admit, but this is a seller who wants a hundred bucks up front with no real assurances that anything about him is real.
Judge for yourself, but my name won't be on his bidders' list.

Dormancy is one of the main indicators of a hijacked account. And, this seller has three of these listed, none of which have actual images of the coin. He may very well be legit, but I wouldn't be risking my money.

As for the coin itself....40,000 were produced on quarters. They are colored by a company and released into circulation as a promotion for a movie. The Silver Surfer is a character in the movie.

He has also previously listed three others, two of which actually sold. The account did have one other activity after it was set up. They bought one item back in 2005.

You may not care for it, but the well developed paranoia displayed by folks on this board have saved a lot of people a lot of money. I would highly recommend that you understand a little more about how and what is noted as suspicious here before you go flaming. And the bidder HAS NONE!!
<< <i>Why would such a limited coin be sold by someone that has been on eBay for 6 years yet has only 1 feedback???? And the bidder HAS NONE!!
Because he's the one that found it?
<< <i>"Found" it?
I haven't been following this but weren't these released into circulation so whoever found one in their change would put it on ebay?
<< <i>"Found" it?
They were released into circulation as a marketing gimmick... you get one if you find one
I could stand a good laugh right about now.
Thanks Jeremy
