I know the ones I've seen on eBay and stuff are all by people who had them given to them by someone who works for FOX. BUT has anyone seen or heard or read anything about someone ACTUALLY finding one?

Well, that's about all I know too. I think it's just going to be dumb luck who finds these. And I don't think I'd turn it in for a prize, well, unless the prize was pretty

If you want one go to Ebay and pay an arm and a leg for one.
That just killed it for me....
If it were colorized with paint , I might bite(In finding one, not paying $200 or so). But a decal does nothing for me, too cartoonish...
Stickers on coins can't bring any real value to a coin,can it? I know of no other coin that has........

If it was just a sticker why ask the Franklin Mint for help? Couldn't FOX just do a sticker and put it on themselves?

Just a Publicity Stunt at best, putting decals on coins is not illegal unless the intent is fraud...
If there a Decal I could have 10,000 ready by morning, if I had the inkling but I chose to use my powers for Good and not Evil..."-)
Here's a Hot Wheels I did last year for a give away here on CU, a Silver Surfer Quarter would be a breeze...

Hell, I haven't even seen a presidential dollar yet, and I'm in one of the few places in the country (NYC) where you actually do have dollar coins being used (albeit sparingly) in commerce.
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!

Yes, but those were actually released back into circulation. There seems to be some question as to whether or not more than a token few of the pieces in question were released into circulation at face value, or whether the majority of them were held back for sale on the aftermarket.

That's what I thought too, and under Title 18 Sec 331, which the mint quotes, we would be right. However under Sec 475, which the mint does NOT mention, it turns out that they ARE illegal.

It sounds like the FOX people gave them to retail stores and who ever got them kept them and are selling them on eBay.

That is basically what I figured. The one guy I pointed out is not the only one who has quite a number of them for sale. So I just assumed that FOX had someone who, rather than circulate them, just kept a bunch.
While I see the prices are still high, I figure someone is going to make knock offs and there goes the market. I'm not planning on buying any.

Ha. Since when? I'd like to see the Mint official who said that point out the exact statute. Maybe there is such a statute, probably new, if it exists. But I have my doubts.
PS-That would make all those old time "sticker" dollars and countermarked coins illegal. Some of the countermarked Peace dollars, if I remember correctly, were given out at Camp David by gov't officials as diplomatic gifts in the 1970s, if I have my story straight. (I'm sure somebody knows what I am alluding to- the details escape me right now).
"Sticker" advertising on coins is a concept far older than many of us are. And counterstamped advertising on coins is a tradition that goes back for centuries, if not millennia. Maybe it is illegal, but I strongly doubt it. And even if it were, it is unenforceable. (Except maybe in high-profile cases like this).
I wouldn't pay more than 50c for one of these things but I say if people wanna use 'em for promos, have at it!
